Kenlarkier seems to be sending random spam messages, not sure if anyone else is getting this other than me. He is offering Bitcoin mining / account management and is basically asking for access to someones bitcoin private keys. A brand new account, which seems to be created for the sole purpose of spamming users.

!!! WARNING: This user is a newbie. If you are expecting a message from a more veteran member, then this is an imposter !!!

3 weeks ago, bitcoin had its greatest fall from $2700 to $1995 but today it has risen to $4071 per bitcoin. I am saying this, not to confuse anyone but to prove a point to you that bitcoin will still rise in the nearest future and will be a generally accepted digital currency world wide, don't be deceived by the rise and fall of bitcoin and take this advantage to invest with the right trading company, where you can make real funds with a registered trading company. Contact me with kenlarkier@gmail.com  if you need a good account manager to handle your online trading account with insurance.

Thanks!

It should be in Meta instead. Negging the user wouldn't do anything to stop the spam. The user looks like it should have been banned by now.

If you ever get this kind of messages again, use the report to admin function and report it as unsolicited junk PM.

Ah, I see, sorry was a bit unclear with that sort of stuff. Do you think in the future we will be able to prevent these sort of spam bots? Say we can ip ban them or something like that?

Anyways, thanks lauda for the neg.

Likely not. It's hard to limit spam PMs without potentially disrupting the legitimate ones from the start. In addition, it can be easy to circumvent these kinds of measures.

IP ban wouldn't work since its very easy to just change your IP or use a proxy from the start. Either way, the PM can only be sent once per 6 minutes so that does help with the rate limit. Creating account from a known proxy would also require payment.

Well in that case, why not totally disable the pms for newbie members? Only allow them to pm after they have reached the junior member rank? Bitcointalk.org is high on spammers list, i think i have received some spam in the past too, there needs to be a mechanism to prevent this.
