Hello,

I'm new to the business...managed to get hardware hashing up to 7500Khashes...
Right now i have a max of 3 cards on 1 board (Asrock Extreeme4) and 4GB of DDR3.

I plan to put 4 GFXs on 1 board (and some will have 4x7950s)... Do i need 8Gigs or will 4 suffice?

thanks!

Just some feedback - I had 8GB pulled 4 and there was zero change - so 4GB is fine for 4 cards , have 4x 7950s.

don't skimp on the PSU if the PSU has the name "Wing" in it (or any other part of a chicken) , your going to have a bad time .

two most important parts _ PSU and Mobo -

i have a MAX REVO 1500W running 4 cards. MSI z77a-gd65 - they are all on the 1x slots , don't expect to run 6 cards with that board though, better still if you do manage to , PM me !

Agree on the PSU dont agree on the mobo part. Your hashing is not dependent on your mobo at all in fact you can run your card in a x1 PCIE slot and notice no drop on a $60 mobo .

you need to run an Ivy Bridge processor with that mobo or else that sixth slot disables itself...I run six gpus no problem.

...you're welcome.

cgminer == low RAM used
reaper == high RAM used

this is generally what I have found in testing my devices.  I prefer cgminer based mining.

Guys you are talking about pc memory? I have 8GB memory on my mining rig, but everything including OS needs only 570MB of memory. When mining using GPU you don't need almost no extra pc memory as GPU memory is used instead.

if it's a dedicated rig, you can go with 4 GB RAM to save some electricity - and get a free RAM bar.

I tested and know for a fact that 2GB is not enough for 3x7950

This may be true, but ram is so cheap these days, $30-$50 gets you 8Gig at least and will keep the system running well for a long time to come. He is already spending $1200 on video cards why go cheap on 1-2 gigs of ram?

That might be the case.. but cgminer will not start with 2Gigs...and thread concurrency above 8192

-5 Error...
I just found one of my miners who has this error. looked in the system proprieties, and there is 2 out of 4 gigs usable... I have not idea why...but i cannot start that miner anymore
