I am attending bitcoin 2013 where people keep mention altcoin. While I can't find the official website for altcoin. Can anyone spot some useful resources for me?

It refers to the entire ecosystem of alternative coins, growing by the day! Check out 'Alternate cryptocurrencies' forum here for all the action!

Check out this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=134179.0.  Its an updated list of all coins.  All the coins on that list other than Bitcoin are Altcoins.

MINE DEVCOINS.

They are merge mined with Bitcoin, so you get both
They release 5,000 coins per block instead of 7 like bitcoin
They are going up in value
They should be 10 cents, but are 20 per 1 penny
They have been worth $10 each over a year ago

I'm thinking DVC is probably pretty CPU friendly with 10 minute block times and 5,000 coin payouts... And I believe BQC (BBQ Coin) is also CPU friendly.

are alternative coins really worth interest, or are they all copycats started by people that were mad at the rising bitcoin difficulty?

I think that with current hardware rigs, any new money based on sha256 is bound to have a very fast growth, but what about confidence and reliability?

Depends on the coin. Devcoin is an amazing project meant to develop great things, and support starving artists and developers.
