I haven't heard too much about it lately, but I also haven't been frequenting the forums very much. Just wondering what everyone thinks about it.

I love the idea of bitmessage, but I guess I haven't really found much use for it because no one else I know uses it. I'd rather not force people to download this weird software to get in contact with me, but if I give them the option of email or bitmessage, people will generally choose email because they're used to it and most likely already have an email address. Is that pretty much the only issue?

I do Smiley

Albeit, my friends and family probably won't switch to it, but they are the sort of people who broadcast every aspect of their lives on the Facebooks, and don't really care about using a 3rd party to manage their private conversations.

I am. There are a few mailing lists on it, with people posting stuff regularly (including one with NSFW girl pics). They are adding new features all the time, such as encryption for public broadcasts (mailing lists), and options to set your own proof of work difficulty. Plus there has been a surge of new downloads from China.

Yup, I use it.  Definitely a bit of an access problem, since only a small handful of people I know use it, but it seems like a really good system.

I feel less and less inclined to ever say anything meaningful by any digital method.  But if I'm going to, I like the idea of a securely encrypted, short-term storage decentralized messaging system like this one.  I wish there was a way to attach even very small files to it, but I recognize that implementing something like that would wind up taxing the network pretty hard.

If I've been able to help out, donations are always welcome.

They attach files to it all the time. There's a whole mailing list just for sending nudie girl pictures. They have to Base64 encode them though, but BM has a 180mb file limit.

Hi everybody,
Do note that that website only lists broadcasts which are still unencrypted because they are using v2 addresses. It doesn't show the newer version 3 addresses at all, like the 24x7 General list: BM-GuRLKDhQA5hAhE6PDQpkcvbtt1AuXAdQ.

Really?  Well, that just shows how much I need to do more research.  That alone would make this greatly more useful for me.

They also recently added a fix that encrypts all broadcasted messages with the public key of the broadcasting address. Easy enough to decrypt, if you're already using that address to listen to the broadcast, but keeps everything that ever gets broadcasted completely encrypted, in case someone sends CP and your node inadvertently transmits or stores it.
