Hi. I am very new to cryptocurrency. I made a litecoin wallet using electrum-ltc 2.8.3.5. The wallet is encrypted. Everything went fine until I tried to log back in the first time. I know my password is correct, but it refused it over and over. I found one reference on line about deleting all files in roaming eletrum folder except the wallet folder. I tried that and got back into the program on my desktop, but after I transffered coins in, it stopped working again. It refuses my password no matter what I do, even if I try deleting all files but wallet in the roaming folder. Now it won't accept my password at all.

This program does not show me an option for restoring the wallet either. All I ever get when I click the program is a window that says choose the default wallet or other and then give password. There no other options at all.

Can anyone help me with this?

Edited to add: I have tried restoring using my laptop, and I used the same seed as for the wallet on the desktop, but when the program loaded after using the seed, it shows no balance. I thought the seed was supposed to restore my wallet. Why is this not working?

added: when I restored the same program without a password, it works. Seriously not good program. It won't work when a password is used.

Did you give a custom name to your wallet by any chance back when you created it? Looks like you created a default wallet first and then encrypted it, afterwards you made a new wallet with a custom name. what happened was, when you were using electrum, electrum was using the "default wallet" to receive your litecoins but you thought you were receiving them on the custom wallet which you created. Do you have the seed of the "default wallet" which was created on the first launch by any chance? If you don't you may say goodbye to your litecoins. But if you do have the seed, just enter that seed of the "default wallet" and it will hopefully recover your litecoins. Good luck!

P.S Also try running a Virtual machine and run electrum there and see if you get any success.

Hi. I will try the virtual machine with this some time later. Thanks for the tip.

I only asked for a custom wallet and did not rename or make a special wallet when installing program and creating the electrum-ltc wallet. Basically I can restore and access so long as I don't have it password protected, which makes it useless really. I moved to Coinomi for the time being.

Added note to issue: same issue happened to me on my laptop. Both these machines run Win 10 and Avast. I am not sure if Avast is at fault, since I turned it off for ten minutes and there was no change to the issue, unless there's still something running in the background. These were fresh installs on the laptop using restore, but still no access while using a password. I made sure of the password I used, to the point of single digit typing while staring straight at the correct keys.

I am doing small test changes too. For example, I created a password after the fact of re-installing on the desktop, not during install, and that password is working fine. So this issue may only be happening with a password created during the initial install and wallet set up. Something on my systems (Avast?) may not be playing nice with Electrum-LTC.

If it continues working with the the newly created password, I will be happy with the program.

Hi,

I made an account just to ask about this because I am having the same problem. I am also very new to cryptocurrency. Everything that happened to you is also happening to me: This is my first time ever installing electrum-ltc-2.8.3.5.dmg from their official website. I own a mac. Like you, there is no option at all to recover my wallet. All I see when I try to run the application is it asks for a password for default_wallet, that's it. It refuses my password over and over but I know it's correct because I have accessed the wallet before--only since yesterday I haven't been able to access my wallet. Can you walk me through step-by-step how you managed to recover your wallet? Did you just uninstall and reinstall the application? I also have an encrypted wallet with a seed. I have both the seed and password written down and no one has access to them but me.

Uninstalling probably won't work, as it won't remove the Electrum data dir with the wallet file in it. I believe that on OSX, Electrum is storing it's data in a folder called .electrum in your home directory. I've not used Electrum-LTC, but I would assume it uses .electrum-ltc or something similar

If you have your seed, then you can delete the contents of that folder and then you should be able to restart and create a wallet from scratch. (Note: You will probably want to make a backup of the "wallets" folder before you delete everything in .electrum-ltc... #justInCase Wink)

Yeah, all the data is in /Users/[Username]/.electrum

There's the wallets folder you were talking about, and then there's a certs folder, and a bunch of files like blockchain_headers, config, daemon, recent_servers. Inside the wallets folder is my default_wallet where I stored my LTC. So you're saying I can just make a copy of this wallets folder somewhere on my computer and delete everything else, so long as I have my seed? I thought a seed was unique to that specific default_wallet file? If I were to completely restart I can still use my seed on a fresh install and it should work?

Edit to add: Also there is a new version of the electrum-ltc wallet from their official website. If I were to try and restore my wallet on this newer version do you think that would help or hurt? I've read their release notes on the website but I'm still a bit confused. Thanks for the help.

Theoretically, you can simply shutdown Electrum, make a copy of the default_wallet file... then delete it from "/Users/[Username]/.electrum/wallets"... then start Electrum and it will ask to create a wallet... you can select the "I already have a seed" option, type your seed in... add a password if desired... and your wallet and all transactions will be restored.

Fixed. All I did was make a backup of all the contents in ~/.electrum, deleted the existing folder, and re-downloaded and ran the 2.8.3.5.dmg again from the official website. I re-entered my seed and did not choose to encrypt with a password (as advised by the OP). All my LTC is there Smiley . Thank you!!
