Why mine solo? A pool is quicker and easier!

Get a good GPU to start with! Smiley

I like Minertopia:
http://pool.minertopia.org/site/mining
You can sort on difficulty and profit. I like ESP, but its only 5 sat at this moment. But I expect more of it!

Mining solo obviously could provide more profit if the coin takes off or anything.  I don't have fancy gear for mining and it would have to be something super easy to actually mine for it to be worth it I guess...

I wouldn’t trust any online websites that feature Bitcoin mining or Altcoin mining for that matter because people deposit their Bitcoin or Altcoin into those types of websites yet they don’t have the time to get their money back out from the website because the website that they deposited their money into gets shut down for some unknown reason.
Cloud mining websites and the newer mining websites aren’t to be trusted, just stick to solo mining or use the old mining pools that feature newer coins if you actually want to make money through mining because you spend less time that way.

Cloak mining nets you 6% annually guaranteed, and can be done on a cheap $200 laptop without burning it up because it is POS mining not POW mining (meaning that it requires less energy).  And if you are lucky to mine some Enigma transactions (becaue Cloak is anonymous), then you can make a lot more $$$.

Can you tell me more about what Cloak mining is?  Is there a website I can actually read some information on this at all?

solo mining is like gambling with small hash or rig because you can hit a block or not all depend if you have small rig or less hash then not to go for solo mining as now day difficultly is increasing day by day so getting block is like all luck ..

Never heard of cloak mining either. Would like some more information about it or even a link to a thread so we can do more research on it.

Also heard of a monero mining program but it installs a miner on someone's robolox account (whatever that is).
Sounds like a hack tool or something but it deposits into your wallet.
Maybe try it out on a network of your own computers so you will not get caught and get yourself in a lot of trouble.

Yes, right. Maybe that was fake and we should avoid trying it. There is no trusted mining sites nowadays. The only mining site I have profited was during the hashocean time. Man, everybody is caught there when they r the biggest and trusted in their time and then suddenly, they run away and scam people. Genesis is good and legit only until they are still around.

I know there are a lot of pools out there, I am really interested in mining solo in which you don't need super expensive gear in order to actually get it.  I am not trying to do pool mining because someone is always going to have better gear and therefore get a lot more coins than I am able to get.

It seems you're looking for a coin with a low network hashrate, if what you're worried about is having a much smaller proportion of the overall hashrate than other people with better equipment.

The main difference between mining as part of a pool and solo mining is that pooled mining typically offers a more steady stream of income (distributed according to PPS/PPLNS/etc.), while solo mining offers more infrequent, but greater, rewards. (Or so we would expect. It's possible to mine to consecutive blocks solo, but it's highly improbable on any major coin at this time.)
Pool fees and other policies (such as minimum payout thresholds) are additional considerations.

Point being, switching from a pool to mining solo isn't going to achieve what you seem to desire. What you need to do is move to a small coin where a low network hashrate and thus a low difficulty that allows your individual hashrate to net you many coins. (And I'm guessing you plan on holding those coins for the sake of speculation? Because at current prices, this is probably not the most profitable move.)

Tl;dr: Pool or no pool isn't the big question here, just stick with your original purpose on finding a more obscure coin with a lower network hashrate.

I think the economics of it is that if the coin is worth mining, I.e. Profittable, it is going to be dominated by pools and solo miners with massive equipment ... You'd be lucky to get one block every few months with low power equipment.  You might be able to jump on some near dead coins (hoping they rebound) or brand new coins while the difficulty is low, but again, the economics is that you are probably better off saving on your electric bill and putting that money towards buying the cheap coins (if you think they will rebound or rise) than mining them.

Altcoin mining with GPUs is still profitable, you will earn your investment back, depending on the rate of hashrate per dollar spent on that GPU. I've almost earned my second GPU investment, I bought it used, it's the best way to get a decent GPU but a lot cheaper, I would recommend it. And in the end, you have a GPU! You can use it for gaming if you decide to stop mining for whatever reason or even sell it for extra profit.

Just take care of your hardware!  Don't overclock it too much, clean the fans every so often, and keep them decently cool.  Running hot is a sure way to shorten the life span of your cards.

I personally like the built in water cooled ones, like what EVGA makes.  Sure, a little more expensive, but wow it's quiet and runs much cooler than the 3x fan Powercolor that I'm also using.

I mine at Kano's Pool because it pays the best and is completely transparent!  Come join me!
