Whats the deal with these alt coins? Where can I spend them?

I see there has been a rush in new alt coins and was wondering what the point is if they can not be spent only traded.

Just quick get rich schemes by people pumping and dumping them.\
Honestly, I see a batch (read - 3-5) of new coins every few days I visit the alt currency subsection. Old ones die quickly.

You either mine them early and dump them afterwards, or invest in one of them long-term hoping it becomes the 'next Litecoin'.

Personally I'm investing on YAC, we'll see how that turns out  Grin. Shame I didn't get to mine early though Undecided

Are different cryptocurrencies like different national currencies, or is it really winner-take-all?

The only altcoin IMHO that has some hope of being "the silver" to Bitcoin's "gold" is the Litecoin.  I would be incredibly wary with the other altcoins' penny-stock like movements and awful circulation/liquidity.

You can spend Litecoins at the Atlantis market, at several online stores, Litecoin forums, and of course, trade them on BTC-E.com.

Alt coins are a great opportunity to make quick easy money as a miner - just make sure you get on earlier.

Seems like most alt coins are just trying to make some initial money and then they drop to the basement.  The only ones that have a chance are the ones that actually bring some type of innovation to the table.  The newest alt coin that I think could have potential is WorldCoin, because it has the fastest transactions of any cryptocurrency.

Worldcoin had a huge spike today, but has reached parity with BTC like all other altcoins.

Yes, altcoins is a nice way to get money  quickly (mining) if you start earlier, but if you want to exchange buying them in a exchange webpage, is a pretty risky, because some of them, sometimes, dies very quickly.

Pick your scamcoin, or join the pile and create your own, premine to hell and hope theres enough liquidity to crash it and cash out on your duped followers. Capitalism!
