Hello Community I need your advice about starting up a mining rig. First of all I do understand that the great times of mining is already passed and its probably better off to spend my 3-3.5k$ by directly investing in coins. But I like to do it as a hobby and hopefully I can have a ROI at some point and have a crypto investment in the future.
I helped a friend to setup 11x zotac 1050 ti(samsung memory) with biostar bt250 board using Nvoc v0018. The results are quite decent hashing at 15.6mh/s (170mh/s total) each card with +950 memclock -200 gpu clock and at 53watts. Dual mining doesnt seem profitable with these cards as it doesnt warrant the hashrate dropping to 13mh/s profitablity and gpu stress wise.
So now its time to setup my own mining rig Im gonna order an Asrock H110 13x gpu board and am not sure how to proceed with graphic cards.
I have the option to go with 13x Zotac 1050ti which would net me around 200mh/s. 1050 Ti's here cost of 175$ for each card after tax
Or I can try a different approach by buying Zotac 1060 mini 3gb 244$ or Zotac 1060 3g AMP edition dual fan for 255$ after tax. Or the Zotac 1060 mini 6gb for 295$ after tax.
note: If i go the 1060 route I can only afford 8 cards and will have the room to upgrade to 13 if things are going well.
The 1060 3gb AMP edition (dual fan) looks tempting as from what i hear ethereum Dag file wont go above 3gigabytes before April 2018 and I would still have other options to mine after that to get my ROI.
As for performance wise for 1060 cards its quite unclear for me. I see people posting from 15mh/s to upto 25mh/s per card. If i go with 1060 I will do it with the hopes that dual mining is actually not as bad like 1050ti with them or if Ethereum doesnt do well the 1060's can perform decently with Zcash hashing 280-300sol/s while the 1050 ti does 160-180sol/s.
Which direction would you go if you were in my shoes?
Sorry for the wall of text.
I'm not sure. I struggle with the same myself.
One thing I do know is that zcash seems to be better on things you can OC the core and run higher power on like OC and SC cards. Once I get my 1070's out of my tower into open air I'm certain I can pull about 470 sol/s on them. I don't know if that really matters for ethereum. I've seen people say up to 35 on a 1070 but the best I can tweak to is 30.5-31.
dollar per hash though seems what you want to do with the 1050ti is best.
