So long story short... A few days ago, I woke up, made an extra large cup of black Colombian coffee. I was checking CoinMarketCap, rubbing my hands and enjoying magnificent green charts. However, this euphoric feeling ended shortly when I decided to check my Exodus wallet, which I use to keep a part of my portfolio. And surprise, surprise it was fucking empty! My cryptos transferred to this motherfucker's account - https://etherscan.io/txs?a=0xfb6f45bee8073a11d84391d81b37f76259464b43&p=1

I have a couple of hypotheses, how the motherfucker managed to hack the wallet. Through my own stupidity, somehow I forgot to delete a screenshot of backup words on my personal Google Drive. I know - a dumb, ignorant move on my part. OR my machine (it has OSX and Avast installed) was compromised, maybe some kind of keylogger installed.

That being said, I've learned my lesson. Ledger Nano S is on my way. I don't want any more surprises in the morning.

Now the question is, what can be done with the motherfucker, who stole the funds? As you can see, more than $200K was hacked from multiple persons and laundered via https://hitbtc.com. Should I reach out to Hitbtc? Report it to legal authorities?

Exodus is not that secure, you had to at least wait for the 2FA support but yeah, that wouldn't help either since the seed was comprosed. HitBtc may not give the funds back (unless the owner still have money on that account) but it definitely worth contacting them.

I know that you choose Exodus because it supports multi currencies but it is weak in security, well compared to other desktop wallets like Electrum.

Since you do trading it is now a perfect choice to have bought the Ledger Nano S. I am 100% sure with this wallet once it arrives (and I suggest you set it up in a Linux live CD just to be sure) you will not have any more bad morning surprises.

i am not really sure about it is worth or not if you contact them,
because you're hacked by hacker (if it's real by hacker) that mean you're the one who's have a responsibility about it,
just like this for example :
you're giving your data account to your friend and your friend take it from you,
after that you're complaining to them about this case, what will they do ?
obviously they will not do anything because you're wrong.

but honestly speaking i am not really sure about those exchanger, because this days many exchanger doing a stupid activity,
so,it's not a rare thing if we encountered something like this.
and one of my experience,i encountered something like you.back up my data to my gmail and compromised,

so the most important thing is to let it go,
and i am really sure they will not do anything about your problem, because it has been transfered to another wallet.

Ah damn. Let's just say, that's an expensive lesson.. hopefully not TOO expensive. Taking screenshots and saving your recovery seeds on a un-encrypted storage or device, or taking screenshots of your seeds in general is very bad. If you were to be targeted by a hacker or hackers, it's pretty much just handing your wallet over to them.

Good move on purchasing a ledger nano, but if you were to need a multi-currency wallet(maybe for accepting donations or so? if you have a website), I would still go with Exodus over Jaxx. Jaxx is pretty much vulnerability land.

Exodus is not that secure, you had to at least wait for the 2FA support but yeah, that wouldn't help either since the seed was comprosed. HitBtc may not give the funds back (unless the owner still have money on that account) but it definitely worth contacting them.

Well yea not that secure, but definitely better over Jaxx. My bet for a multi-currency wallet would be Exodus and Coinomi.

Ledger Nano s has one drawback: you can only store 4 coins at the same time. The stick has no more memory
this is not good . I wanted to store a stick with 20-30 coins on it   Grin
Otherwise you must delete a coin if you want to save another
In addition, the 2 buttons are so small that you quickly mistyped
And this can happen quickly in 24 words

Isn't that Exodus is not a secure wallet. If he has a malware in his computer, he could have lost his coins with any other wallet.

You can't really blame the software if it's your fault in the first place - which is probably what happened, since I use Exodus for more than 2 months and never had any issues regarding its security.

those altcoins are still far behind in terms of wallet security, especially ethereum. Relying on coinomi, exodus, jaxx is not the best you can do.  you learned the lesson the hard way sorry for your loss but take some time to do some research and invest in coins which have secure wallets that you can handle yourself.

That is why i never trust new wallet created or any multi crypto wallet that honestly it is really risky better to go save your altcoin or bitcoin in official wallet which is recommended by developers.. than you are choosing an multi wallet like jaxx or exodus..
I just notice its ethereum so i was thinking that maybe you exchange your altcoin and you just forgot that you already transfer your altcoin to other wallet..

If you don't have any Ethereum on the wallet, you would know for sure that the tokens couldn't be moved is that correct?
