Electrum Sweeping question

I have some BTC that I got from mining back in 2014 on a Multibit Classic wallet.  I am trying to transfer everything to a Trezor and trying to figure out the safest and most cost effective way to do that.  I read that you can sweep your keys from Mulitbit into electrum.  I tried doing that yesterday and I swept 5 address with 86 transactions for a total of just over 12,700 bytes.  It said the fee was unknown. 

1)Is there a set fee for sweeping or is there a way to find out how much the fee would be to sweep?  I know you can adjust the transaction fees, but that did not seem to do anything for sweeping.

2)12.7kb is large, looking up average current fee is 450 satoshis/byte using that it would be about .057BTC ~ $240 fee to sweep in a little over 1BTC.  Is there a better route to get the coins out of multibit and into the trezor?

3)My balance on my Multibit classic is just over 1.04BTC when sweeping the keys it says amount received is 999.9 mBTC.  Is that how much would show up in electrum after the fees or do I need to check for unconfirmed transfers? which the last transfer was in 2014.

There is no set fee. You can choose your fee.

You can set the fee to about 200 satoshis/byte, and the transaction would go through in about a day. Also, consider getting rid of the inputs that contain dust amounts of btc to reduce the transaction size.

When you sweep you get shown a transaction window where the actual fee you pay will be listed.

In order to have control over the fees I think you need to import your private keys into a new wallet instead and then send them to your HD wallet with the seed:

Once you've imported your keys you can wait for an opportune moment when there is less congestion on the network and fees have fallen. They you can pay a low fee to move your coins. Alternatively you can just use your imported private keys wallet as normal and consolidate to a seeded wallet later.

Swagtoshi. I have the lastest version of electrum 2.9.3. However, I do not see a way to adjust the fees with a sweep. When I do sweep it always says fee unknown. Under the send tab and preferences are the only places I see to adjust fees. Are you asking for the transaction of the sweep?  I have swept, but not broadcasted it.

Abdussamad. I get the window after sweeping, but few is always unknown. From further reseach importing might be better with more contiol of fees. Then just consolidate all the transactions into one by moving the BTC into a new trezor wallet after importing.

If I import my keys to electrum would that effect me claiming my bitcoin cash.  From reading boards it best to move you BTC to a different wallet, than use the keys in a bitcoin cash wallet. Is there any risk with importing into electrum or can i still use my original keys to claim the bitcoin cash.

Importing private keys would not be moving the funds. To move the funds you need to do the import and then send the coins to another wallet. Say your regular electrum wallet.  The transaction that sends those coins must confirm. After all that is done you can claim your BCC.

Pay approx 0.012 BTC and post your tx,so I can accelerate it.  It might take a day in worst case or even a hour(depends on your luck) but your tx will be confirmed and before sending your tx,always check that unconfirmed transaction log is below 35k transactions.

if you see here, I paid 0.006 BTC for a tx size of 6867 (bytes) and it was confirmed almost instantly

Thank you.  I am not in a huge hurry to have the BTC transfer.  So sweeping may have a large fee to do it quickly and there seems to be no way to control the fee with a sweep.  Also I will have to pay another fee to send to trezor.  I will import the keys to electrum which does not have a fee.  I should be able to control the fee size with an import and just send to the trezor this evening or tomorrow and post the transaction and try to get it accelerated.

There will be no problems on doing that. You will only be able to spend the legacy BTC from Electrum. The remaining Bitcoin Cash will stay there and you will be able to redeem them as soon as you import your private key in a compatible wallet - e.g: Electron Cash.

I usually use this website[1] that scrapes the recommended fees from a Bitcoin core node and them just send a tx with half to 70% of the recommended "fastest fee". Right not they are showing a fee of 181 sat/byte for the fastest fee.

Thank you for your help.  I do have one last question.  I want to transfer the bitcoin cash to my trezor as well.  I will just use the original keys.  Do I need to have the bitcoin cash wallet on a different computer or can I have electrum and electron cash on the same computer without there being and issue?

From a technical point of view... there shouldn't be any issue with having Electrum and ElectronCash on the same machine... as they use different data directories (unlike BitcoinCore and BitcoinABC)...

From a security point of view... it would probably be smart to move all your BTC out of Electrum before you import your seed/keys into ElectronCash... but so far, there haven't been any security issues with the "real" ElectronCash client... just make sure you get it from the official website www.electroncash.org

Using a VM or a live distro CD/USB is also an option.
