Despite struggling economy, Italy deemed healthiest country in the worldItaly has been declared the healthiest country on Earth by the Bloomberg Global Health Index. A child born and raised in Italy can be expected to live up to their 80's. One contribution to this is the common Italian diet, which is considered rich in vegetables, as well as including extra virgin olive oil as an ingredient. In addition, the country is also known for having a surplus of doctors, who can provide medical help when needed. Specifically when compared to Americans, Canadians, and Brits, Italians were also said to generally have better mental health and lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Italy's health rankings have come out in spite of the country's struggling economy. Around 70% of young Italians are said to be out of work and Italy is believed to have one of the world's highest debt loads when compared to the size of its economy.
Other countries on the list, making up the "top ten" healthiest countries in the world, include Iceland, Switzerland, Singapore, Australia, Spain, Japan, Sweden, Israel, and Luxembourg. Each country was graded over issues like life expectancy, high blood pressure, tobacco use, and the availability of clean water.
