I know this has been probably asked a million times but I decided to go all in (investment money speaking) on bitcoin so I am looking for a safe wallet.

I have some stored in blockchain digital wallet but want to take it offline just in case. I did use electrum in the past and still considering it.

For me electrum its the best offline wallet, secure & simple, i recommend it
But im using blockchain online wallet, if you have decided to go all in, you need offline wallet

I am looking forward to having a ledger soon anyway with all the hypes. By the way, if you are looking for a long time storage and looking to have lots of bitcoin, I will advise a cold storage as most people already adviced here. Hardware or paper wallets are good for that. Desktop wallets aren't bad too though but remember that those desktop wallets (most especially the light ones) are as safe as the PC you are installing them on. So be careful of malwares and don't just expose them if you are planning on sticking to one.

very good point. but the issue here is offline wallets, which i take to mean cold storage. you shouldn't be setting up cold storage on a computer connected to the internet! Tongue

i definitely made some mistakes early on with altcoin wallets and malware years ago. when it comes to cold storage, i only use an offline/air-gapped machine that has no other purpose than to generate seeds and install/export cold wallets. BTC is just too precious to deal with any other way!

Paper wallets are one of the safest offline wallets and we also save it on a USB pen drive and various other offline applications are available

Based on my opinion electrum is the best wallet other wallets I did not find much rating and also long not exist from one time but may be new offline wallet too good compare to electrum but if your holding your hard earned money then go with proven one.

Electrum is the perfect choice, you already use it in the past and thus you know it, it's simple and safe. You can put it in an USB drive, then send all your money to this new wallet and store it in a safe place. Simple and safe.

You already had the offline wallet that I'm about to suggest, electrum is what almost everyone prefer here. And I have some funds there probably 1 bitcoin and I don't have any plans on using them that's why you are good to go with electrum and there's no need to worry about it because it's one of the safest offline/desktop wallet ever.

I am also using electrum and I have no issue using it.  I used to save my bitcoin in Multibit but the moment they upgraded to HD, they remove our rights to save private keys (probably there is still option to but I cannot find it)  I think these wallets are safe as long as your system is not compromised.  Others also use paperwallets.

Yes, electrum is the one that gives the best access and make it an secure way for saving bitcoin. Personally most of the users prefer Blockchain.info which has gained the trust than other wallet under the online wallet segment.

i keep seeing everyone repeating electrum and paper wallet, but you should remember that these are not safe on their own. for example if you open bitaddress.org right now and create a new paper wallet and print it, that is not safe because you just made it while online and it may have been compromised.

there are certain steps that should be taken for a secure offline wallet like these:
1. downloading the wallet, code,... from trusted sources.
2. verifying its signature to make sure you have not downloaded a compromised source
3. running it in a clean and offline computer to generate your offline wallet.
4. never connecting that computer to internet ever.

i think for me the safest wallet is the paper wallet since your private key is not stored in the internet. There are many good features on storing your bitcoin or money in a paper wallet.

You hold your private key meaning you personally secure it because if it's on the net there's a chance that it may hack and get your private key.

a bit coin wallet is very useful when you invest to a coin and want to hold it for a long term.

Unfortunately any kind of wallet can be compromised in some way, even though the probability of this happening is extremely low. Like folks here have mentioned, you can definitely consider a paper wallet because then you will be the secret keeper of your funds. But you will have to ensure protection of that wallet too.
I personally go for Trezor, I find it secure. It has a recovery mechanism too

There are few truly offline wallets if you have intention in long-term safe holding of bitcoin, Bitcoin Core and Armory (which still require bitcoin core blocks installed) are excellent options. Being truly offline and require almost no trust in a third party.
Electrum, although secure, still require some trust in the operators, the benefit is the no need to reinstall the blockchain as a whole, You can even get a hardware "Ledger Blue" if you would like to take security to the maximum.

1. Make a paper wallet (with password)
2. Send a little bit of coins there and try to spend it
3. If successful, send all of your coins there
4. Print 3 or more copies
5. Get a ziplock bag, put the paper wallet copies into them
6. Spread them, to your safety box, vaults, etc.
7. Wait n see.

4. Print 3 or more copies

At step 2, you no longer have an offline wallet.
Instead of spending the little bit of coins, try to decrypt the wallet offline. Download bitaddress.org and run it on an offline computer.
