Many ICO are popping up every minutes nowadays.

In their site they are showing a team and a project plan then asking for us to invest there.
My gut feeling says many of this will turn scam or we will not get a good return.
Just like HYIPs.

What is the difference between these too many new ICO and HYIP?
There is a lot of possibility to a HYIP admin can create an ICO site.

What do you guys think?

============Adding:
ICO have referral program
Bonus
High return promise
And promise for stability even before start.
-- Just sounds like HYIP?

And, many senior members are advising here 'do not invest an amount that you do not afford to loose' in ICO
That is the moto or slogan, footer note or desclimer of all the HYIP projects.

This is a big concern at this time. there are so many icos propping like mushrooms after rain. A SOP definitely needs to be in place or this ICO will attract the wrong crowd and it will definitely become a HYIP. More and more people are interested in making money overnight and dont give 2 cents to the project development. Good projects take time to develop.

No, HYIP offers a high and guaranteed return. In the ICOS the return of the investment is calculated by the free market.

Spot on but the number of ICOs popping up is just unreal, it seems a lot of projects now see an opportunity to raise a lot of funds cheaply or virtually for free without guaranteeing any product delivery. The community would just need to continue asking questions and picking apart the real and valid projects from amongst the many.

In this case, HYIP is better.  Tongue
At least we know our profit if the HYIP does not turn scam.

But we never know what we will get in an ICO and we are investing in a shady project.
We can not ask our investment back if we do not get any from the ICO.
Just like HIYP issue.

Yes, that is the issue.
No time to take a breath and to have a look at least.

Yup, and they do not have to answer to anyone after they got their fund.

The community would just need to continue asking questions and picking apart the real and valid projects from amongst the many.

I hope, a lot of ICO monitor sites will also be popped up and the monitor site admin will get bribed by the ICO team to make a legit look for their site just like millions of HYIP monitors.

in my opinion, there is not much difference in hyip and ico as hyip ask you for a guaranteed returns but never fulfill their terms as mentioned and closed any time and in ico, you have to put money for listing and future gains on faith on their white papers, but nothing assured.

Not all of them, at the moment I can see from all the latest ICO or current coins and provide new innovations, not so well used / useful. I can see this as a trap by giving a "beautiful word or a plan" to attract attention. In fact there are still many project serious in providing new innovations. Therefore, be wise in investing, review and make sure your money grows.

No, if HYIP for sure it is a scam sites, it will be closed its just the matter of time, while ICO is an early stage of introducing coin, some of the ICO is successful and become a good alt coins, so ICO is not 100% scam while HYIP is 100% scam

I think it is two different things.
That is why, before investing on some ICOs, you need to do some research.
About their team, roadmaps and all. While HYIP is indeed a scam.

A highly orchestrated HYIP. Many ICOs today are just popping out. And it's hard to to choose what ICO is the good one to invest with your money. Some of them are just copy paste from other tokens. So im carefully choose which one is potential coin in the future. So i suggest if you are going to invest to any ICOs out there. Just make a research yourself. Don't just listen to anything they were saying here. Some are just paid to hype those coin. Sometimes they are faking the stats to make it impressive. But not all of them. That's why it's very important to make sure you made a proper research before jumping in.

Most of them are. It all depends on the intention of dev and the community.
One may call bitcoin too a HYIP (It does have a nature of Ponzi).
Tokens (Ethereum based at least) are auditable, so have a little bit of transparency than a traditional HYIP.

yes, not all them.
New innovation and not so well used are the risk or the possibility to turn scam

I can see this as a trap by giving a "beautiful word or a plan" to attract attention.
yes, with attractive sites and white paper

In fact there are still many project serious in providing new innovations. Therefore, be wise in investing, review and make sure your money grows.
This is the complecated part.
During the the BTC popped time there was only one and was easy to filter and study but currently there are thousands of them.
I do not think common people will be able to do a good 'research' and filter them.

No, if HYIP for sure it is a scam sites, it will be closed its just the matter of time,
Same.. ICO also will be turn scam just matter in time.
After a couple of years you will be able to create a list of scam ICO and put them in a monitor site.

while ICO is an early stage of introducing coin, some of the ICO is successful and become a good alt coins,
this success depends on what?
what if they do not succeed ??

so ICO is not 100% scam while HYIP is 100% scam
This is true.
But,
ICO is not 100% scam but there is a 100% possibility to turn scam.
We can not believe all they say in their sites and white papers.

For me personally, it depend on who is behind the ICO.

If it is someone with a proven track record, like Vitalik Buterin or Dan Larimer running a new ICO, I don't really question it much, I will invest in it without problem.

But if it is some no name person running a new ICO, then I would need the following:
* real identity of team members
* show me a working prototype of product or proof of concept
* show me how the ICO token will be used, eg. how would my investment be rewarded, why would the token become valuable

I think as long as you exercise caution, you won't be scammed.

ICO's have very little (if anything in common) with HYIP's. The reason you're seeing so many is because it's been proven that people will just throw their eth at almost any half baked project. This doesn't mean that ALL projects are lacking quality but the environment does attract a lot of opportunists. We're honestly probably in a bubble and who knows how long it will last. Could be week or years but it's definitely something worth taking advantage of IMO.

First of all, Hyip is a scam, sooner or later they stop paying and your investment will be gone. ICO's never promise anything and it greatly depends on the team and their vision of a token. Most of them are just made to scam people but some of them got tremendous support.

First of all most of the hyip already running by a single person, if you are comparing the ico and hyip and why try not to compare the trading and hyip because through the trade you want to get the profit and you hope that you can make it as fast as possible. This is the game of money.

I think this is a "guarantee" issue because neither can guarantee that the money we invest will come back, depending on the team and project they are working on. But in this case I prefer ICO, because they have a more clear project.
