No it is absolutely not safe. Don't use any website, since they will be able to get your private keys and take your coins. You could try some reputable ones, but I definitely wouldn't suggest it.

Question is, how you encrypted it in the fist place, since if you used a website to do that, they would be able to have your coins as well.

You should use some open source software for that.

It is safe if done right. There are two options, which of one is safer and you can keep using the private key in the future as well, meanwhile the other method requires you to spend the funds before connecting to internet again.

First Method (Safer):

  • 1. Download and burn some GNU/Linux ISO, for example debian on a DVD,CD or an USB flash drive.
  • 2. Then download the bitaddress zip from From their github page and put it on your flash drive or whatever that you can attach to the PC.
  • 3. After that has been done, boot up the image on your computer and then select "live cd" from the boot menu, after the livecd boots.
  • 4. Extract the bitaddress zip on some folder, then click the HTML file on the folder, which was extracted on the previous step.

Just remember not to connect to the internet for ultimate safety.

Second Method (Not as safe but easier).

  • 1. Download the bitaddress zip From their github page and extract it on some empty folder.
  • 2. Disconnect from the internet, and then open the extracted html file from the folder named "bitaddress.org.html"

I have not used bitaddress by myself, but these guidelines should help you a little bit of the security. The danger of using the second method is that, assuming that your system is not clean from malware.

Bitaddress is open sourced and you can easily download it to your computer though you do have to remember to verify the file before you start using it. If you're just using it for decrypting paper wallets and nothing else, downloading it and using it offline would be quite safe with almost no attack vectors.

Yes. If you own an Android Phone and the paper wallet has a QR code, you can download MyCelium and create a wallet. There is a cold storage function which gives you a more seamless process to send your coins.

Then, you should just follow the proccess to decrypt your private-key from the paper wallet. After you have access to the private key, follow this guide to have access to your coins from both chains:

1. Download Electrum and import the private key from your paper wallet.
2. Create a new different wallet and send all your coins from the paper wallet to your new one.
3. Now you have a wallet with BTC (the one you just created) and the old one from the paper wallet that still has BCH.
4. Download Electron Cash and import the same paper wallet private key from step 1 to manage your BCH.
5. Done! If you want to spend your BCC, use Electron Cash. If you want to spend your BTC, use Electrum.

You are asking if decrypting your private data online is safe? It's not even safe on your desktop because its still connected to the internet. You need an offline computer to be doing this "safely"
