Running a 7950 or 7970 would unpowered risers damage the x16 slots of a mobo?
Thanks!

I guess that would depend on how many you are looking to run, for example I run 2 unpowered risers for the 2 cards in each of my rigs, Those have only 2 pci-e 16x slots, so working at designed. now if I decided to fill the 2 1x slots with cards as well then i would probably start drawing more current through the mother board then it was designed for, that would damage the board. If I decide to add more cards for the 1x slots i will definitely be using powered riser cables.

I've been running only unpowered risers for nearly a year.
3 rigs Each rig has, with four 5970s Three x1 slots One x16 slots.
No problems yet!

would 2 7950s and 1 7790 directly connected to the x16 slots on my mobo and x1 powered 1 7950 not destroy my computer.

x16? no, because that's considered normal use of the pci-e slot. powered risers are only useful for x1 -> x16 risers.

As my x1 powered riser i bought from cablesaurus does not work.... I am hesitant to put a gpu in slot 3 as I am rma the previous motherboard. Think it would be okay? 2 7950s in slot 1 and slot 2, one 7790 in slot 3

how many lanes are slots 1, 2, and 3?
I run a 5850 (150W max draw) using unpowered 1x -> 16x risers without issue. as long as your motheboard is somewhat decent and your card doesn't draw too much power (over 200W), it will work fine.

its a z77 extreme 6 so its a pretty decent board. the first two are x8 / x8 when a second card is in the second lane with the last being x4. the first 2 would be 7950s so over 200W probably :/ the last a 7790 so under 65w probably

also would putting different clocks on every card be a bad idea?

if the size of the slot is x16, it's designed to have a graphics card plugged into it. you should be fine. also would putting different clocks on every card be a bad idea?
no, not at all. cgminer can manage clocks differently so you can squeeze the max out of all your cards.

riser don't damage your mobo, it is the GPU that pulls too much power that will damage the mobo.

Same here. I have one rig with 4 5970 using 1x risers, unpowered, works fine. Also 4 rigs with 4 5870 and 2 5970, also unpowered risers works fine, as well as 2 rigs with 6 7970 with unpowered 1x risers, that too also works fine. 5 MSI Z77A-G45 and 2 MSI 890FXA-GD70
