I am still not sure about that 80/20 but you seem like a nice and fair guy, so I just bought 1 ticket, let's get this started Smiley (I could not be bothered to sign it btw :p)

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

I am a nice and fair guy. Read the rules or the questions part. Specifically the last three questions. (It's a joke or a spoof, but sometimes it needs to be said.)

No need to sign if you don't intend to have the winnings sent to another address. I just send it to whatever address you used to buy the ticket.

Nice weather now huh? It's raining, but just what we need to cool off the hot summer.

May I take this opportunity to solicit Mr. TradeFortress to play too? Don't worry, I won't tell you my secret, so you can't cheat, and everyone knows this even if we still use your secret. Even I can play (because you hold the other secret), but I probably won't because I just coincidentally happen to be the operator. I think that will be deemed an "official" conflict of interest, in my case. But you two, I don't think so, and no one else here can disagree with that. Anyone? Right! You only get to be "operator" when the main man and his first backup get hit by a bus.

But, I won't be changing the rules now regarding the secrets used, because every new variable or change in variables affects the outcome. With 4 tickets so far, each one has a 25% of winning.

A little under 2 days left.

Comments for Dabs Lotto Number 3?

1. Early Bird Discount or Bonus. All bets within first 300 blocks (about 2 days) get bonus tickets.
2. Little Bit At A Time secret of the hour. (UTC time zone) Link: https://lbaat.net/
3. Other site secrets (could take 1 day later)
4. Real Life Lotto Results. (same day results / just a few hours wait)

I understand points 3 and 4 are optional given that there are already going to be 2 secrets used, my secret, and a third party secret. But government run lotteries can not be manipulated at all. (plus you see video of the bouncing balls and stuff.) Also, any other comments on any other part of the rules.

Thanks.

I just discovered that random.org has pre-generated files for the day, published a few minutes or hours after the end of the day, UTC. So I could just go there, and generate strings for example.

http://www.random.org/strings/?num=3&len=20&digits=on&upperalpha=on&loweralpha=on&unique=on&format=html&rnd=date.2013-05-28

That link will always return the same sequence of characters. Which is

Code:
ppXLjs9w0sBuCwuvha0H
W5hQYbZuBcGdDB6Tkn1F
oziNKNkls1onKJ1JU586

So... the first lotto that is not only provably fair, it is also provably random (from atmospheric noise). Well, if we assume that random.org is indeed always random. I think they are.

Anyone disagree?

Sure, if you use a date after the game has ended.

Sure, if you use a date after the game has ended.

The game ends, for example, 2013-05-29 23:59:59. Then I would use
http://www.random.org/strings/?num=3&len=20&digits=on&upperalpha=on&loweralpha=on&unique=on&format=html&rnd=date.2013-05-30

Which, as of right now is not available yet. The 2013-05-29 is available as of 2013-05-29 02:47:39 UTC which is random.org's time stamp. Maybe it was available just shortly after midnight UTC, so, I'll find out later or tomorrow.

By the way, get ready to reveal your secret.

Instead of ending at a time, you could end at a blockchain block and the merkel root for the blockchain at that height could be the secret.  Everyone knows that nobody has that hash until the block is solved.

1. Time's up. Mr. TradeFortress, kindly reveal your secret. There are 6 confirmed tickets as of this time.

Instead of ending at a time, you could end at a blockchain block and the merkel root for the blockchain at that height could be the secret.  Everyone knows that nobody has that hash until the block is solved.

I thought of that, and using the block hash, that would be almost the same as the merkel root? Since both are for all intents and purposes unpredictable. There is the small possibility of being miner manipulated (discarding solved blocks) but maybe that's not much of an issue if they don't also know the secrets used.

Also, while it's more "bitcoiny" to end at a specific block, people tend to go by time. Since bitcoin isn't meant to be an accurate time stamping service, or even uses the correct time that people can relate to, I thought of using UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) as that is very clearly defined by the scientific community. I can simply use the block closest to or after that time.

For this purpose, since I don't know which exact block to use, that can open up possibilities or accusations of manipulation since I can pick from maybe 3 possible blocks to use.

Here are the other details for this round 2:

Quote
secret1
fBibTA4nGnuMAFby8OTDwrQ1htXwM87IXGhC9xhkdwQHsR3A73qumNtWs1MaBIja

hash of secret
f60c4eead0fab6d648f2cee821dcdf4347293ec3ae0690e4401ea8f8b38ecd17

As promised according to the rules, 80% of 0.06 BTC will go to the winner (not yet determinable until TradeFortress posts his secret.) Since the prize is less than 1.0 BTC, 100% of the 80% goes to the winner, 20% goes to game number 3, nothing goes to me.

The question now is, where do I get the transaction fee? From the winner? From the 20%? I didn't mention it before, but now its going to be an issue. In the future, if I have hundreds or thousands of tickets, this transaction fee is going to be a lot more than 0.0005 BTC.

For now, I will find a way to send the transaction without a fee (such as combining larger unspent outputs). In the future, I want this particular bitcoin address to be separate and independent, so it won't affect other funds I own, control or hold. Eventually, by some future game, I'll have enough bitcoins to use as "transaction fee waiver" thingie. But the fee is nice to include to ensure inclusion in the next block without waiting for a long time.

Next post with new rules will be slightly updated to reflect this, and I'll move around the percentages a bit. Still need to determine winner.

My secret:

What an ugly secret. No offense. hehe.. Okay. Doing the computations now. Everyone else, feel free to verify.

Okay. Wait. Is that the exact string? I'm not getting the same hash as yours.

Simple solution would be this: I have my own secret, the hash of it is 489a19950641ae5762a5818611db72e83d30813e44e899e944b0d3f0d2e2dfa0

Ok. I got it. Your string includes an extra space at the end.

"hello#world/c#]C28C[pf]@4=@==- "

is the string without the quotes. I will use that one.

Okay. He's offline. I will just send his winnings to his address. Then I will update the rules, reset the dead man's switch, and update the OP as well. I will be using a new bitcoin address for the next game.
