We live in some dangerous times, where countries are pointing nuclear missiles at each other. We should be prepared for everything and that includes, protecting our technology/currency.

We have seen Bitcoin going into space! Blockstream Inc. plans to make the digital ledger underpinning the cryptocurrency accessible via satellite signal so people without Internet access, or in places where bandwidth is expensive, can trade and mine bitcoin. The company also touts the service as additional layer of reliability for bitcoin’s blockchain data in the event of a network disruption.

Merchants using Bitcoin payment processors should re-think their strategy, because these payment processors are linked to the fiat systems and those networks might be compromised during a nuclear attack.

How are you planning to keep the power on and where will you be buying bitcoins when the power is down at your local exchange? < One more reason not to store your coins at your local exchange >

Mobile networks might also be down or overloaded when communications infrastructures are damaged. Internet access might also be disrupted, if these attacks are combined with Cyber attacks.

What redundancy are implemented at third party services to prepare for the worst?

If there will be something like WWIII, I don't want to experience it. But since years I have the feeling that we are getting closer and closer to a big global change. I think such an event would lead to hyperinflation of fiat currencies all over the world. Bitcoin will be very strong during this times, but it may become illegal to hold and use. Remember the Gold Reserver Act from 1938 which made it illegal for ordinary people to hold gold.

Some of these governments might make it illegal again or the enemy will just raid your wealth, when they occupy your country. The problem with gold is, it is heavy and difficult to hide and transport. I can move between countries with my bitcoins, without any of these problems. < If I want to relocate my family to a neutral country >

Bitcoin is a perfect "Doomsday" solution for traditional currencies, because no exchange between currencies is necessary, if one of these currencies crash, Bitcoin will still protect the value of your wealth in another currency, when you relocate.

These kind of WWIII scenarios always feel a bit speculative to me - it really depends on how this war will be fought: will it be traditional warfare (in the worst case even including nukes)? Will it be an escalation of what we are seeing right now (i.e. terrorism in western countries -> western countries retaliating with combat in other countries). Or will it be purely cyber warfare?

On one hand, I can understand the notion that Bitcoin seems like a good alternative for when this kind of Doomsday scenario happends. But keep in mind: a global war of unseen sizes would likely also destroy considerable parts of the developed worlds electrictiy and network infrastructure. What good is my BTC, if no digital services are available anymore to facilitate payment with? Thats why my tendency is to say: if you want to be a Doomsday Prepper, prepare entirely for an offline, no-electricit life. So buy yourself tradeable goods (food, medicine, gasoline etc) that will be valuable even if all IT infrastructure is disabled.

First of all there won't be a wwiii, cause countries like usa and Korea know they can't afford to attack each other and India and China are standing down so for the time being we can be at peace. If in case it does happen, first priority to protect myself and then to move to a safe country or pass my coins to someone who's on a safe country, that's the only way to protect your coins, one risk is that person may not give you back, but at that time it won't even matter.

If WWIII happens, and we're worrying about nuclear warheads and mutually assured destruction, then the last thing on my mind (and most anyone else's) will be Bitcoin. This is where a lot of bitcoiners have it wrong. Economic turmoil and global war would be devastating for BTC.

People would be concerned about surviving and providing basic necessities, not transacting in digital currencies. Besides, much of the internet infrastructure could be destroyed in such a scenario, rendering the "network effect" of BTC mostly dead.

My life is more important than bitcoin. And I do not even know if internet will survive or the miners will continue to mine bitcoin if their country is being bomb with nuclear missiles. Bitcoin will be the last thing on my mind.

when war breaks out, even if a small war between two small groups inside a country, things become hectic and then unpredictable. speaking of World War and on a massive scale, nothing can be foreseen. and the economy would no longer exist. everything will become about survival and nothing else. no money, gold, bitcoin,... would matter anymore. the currency would be food and shelter. a potato will be worth more than 1000BTC when there is a scarcity.

It depends very much on where the epicentre of the world war is.

During WW2, the main epicentre was Europe, with wars also happening in the Far East, and North Africa. But if you were in South Africa, South America or India, the war passed you by (though India was part of the British Empire and sent troops to fight in both Europe and the Far East, it was not attacked itself, because protected by the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean (at that time planes couldn't fly that far without refueling, so couldn't conduct bombing raids on them).

In the next world war, it's likely the main theatre will be the Pacific, and the Middle East. The Americas, especially the east coast, should be safe, as should Africa and Europe.

I would agree.
It is not a shooting nukes type war, per se.
It is a very successful US government waging of fear amongst the population to gradually erode our liberty, privacy creating nice obedient taxpayers and consumers to pay for vast military/police overspending around the world.

The elites who own the various militarized governments are effectively waging war against the regular folks around the world..

This is nothing new. It has been like this for some 70 years now already. People just forgot it as it seems. Now government is just using this to justify spending on weapons.

If and only if this World war 3 would come cryptocurrency will be also in danger in my opinion via cyber attacks and also network facility attacks which would result to slowdown transactions. Hope will not experience this though. I also hope bitcoin networks could prevent advance weapons that is ultra harmful to electronics.

If WWIII is unavoidable:

Buy as many guns as you can and form a group of people with the same ideal as you, then take all you need from people that didn't did the same you as.

Bitcoin will be useless just like cash and gold, because you can't eat cash or metals

North Korea are not playing with their toys, they are preparing for war. You do not test ballistic missiles over populated areas, if you do not plan to use them. We should also prepare for the worst, by stockpiling on alternative payment methods. < bartering, crypto currencies, informal trade etc. >

Japan should start to invest in Bitcoin, because the currency can be used to move wealth over borders, when the shit hits the fan. You will not be able to move gold and silver bars, but the same amount of wealth in bitcoins can easily be moved to another country.

It will be no WWIII.
There is this one guy, toying with his missiles. But he is isolated, not even supported by his big brother anymore.
That country might do some harm in its region, but not further away.
The rest of the world has some conflicts as well, but they are from economic nature.
To me I do not prepare for doomsday scenarios because something like that will not happen.

I would prefer to hold both,a bit Gold and some Bitcoins to be prepared for most scenarios:

1. Bitcoins if you have to leave the country immediately and cannot take anything with you. Just make sure to have your USB stick / piece of paper with the private keys to your wallet with you.

2. Gold if a global warfare destroys all infrastructure(especially power supply and telephone/internet connections) and you cannot do anything with a digital currency. In this case you can trade with your gold coins like back in the medieval and try to survive until war is over.

Bitgesell (BGL):  A modern and truly scarce store of value. Burn rate is 90% of tx fee. Yearly block reward halving.

It's just the beginning!

Share with us, what prepping are you planning for in a Doomsday scenario?

First of all there won't be a wwiii, cause countries like usa and Korea know they can't afford to attack each other and India and China are standing down so for the time being we can be at peace. If in case it does happen, first priority to protect myself and then to move to a safe country or pass my coins to someone who's on a safe country, that's the only way to protect your coins, one risk is that person may not give you back, but at that time it won't even matter.

There will not be a WWIII? So what is this then? http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-08-29/japan-says-north-korea-launches-missile/8851128

If third world war is about to happen, then for what bullshit was UNO established and all that 5 veto powers ? Are they sleeping ? There won't be a world war because if it happens, it would be the end of the World. Just research the latest weapons, many are not nuclear ones but they cover large area destruction. If the world will end, what good is all money or digital gold ?

When the WWIII start or happen , i dont think bitcoin can be usefull because its world war III not civil war or urban war its war of the whole word each country have a nuclear weapon that makes massive or trmendously damage to one country and ig the electricity, infrastracture, product and others can find om internet will be useless if have no electricity no bitcoin use so i think if doomsday happen you should prepare for your life and your lives without electricy .

Man, if another World War occurs, I'm pretty sure Bitcoins will be the last thing on my mind. They do say money makes the world go round, but in war, I'm pretty sure that will only apply to the filthy rich, and maybe not even then with all these nukes around.

That being said, I don't think a war will break out. Nuclear warfare is essentially mutual destruction, and all parties involved would be wise to avoid that. As far as the tumultuous times go, the Cold War was worse, and that was averted. Let's hope history, at least in that aspect, repeats itself.
