So I flashed my S9's this morning with the latest firmware from Bitmaintech. Now they are LOUDER than they used to be! Both fans running at 4200 RPM rather than one at around 2200 and the other around 3600 like they used to. UGH! Was wondering if any has tried using 120mm --> 140mm fan adapters and getting larger fans with the same or higher pressure ratings but run WAY quieter? These things are going to dive me nuts.  Thanks! |

There is a reason bitmain produced the R4. Their other equipment is not meant to be run at home but in a datacenter where cooling is more important than noise.
As far as putting a bigger fan, there is a reason the fan is the same size as the chassis. Putting a bigger fan on will just make things worse.

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.

As far as putting a bigger fan, there is a reason the fan is the same size as the chassis. Putting a bigger fan on will just make things worse.
These things are not in my house, they are in a climate controlled work space. They are just loud as all hell. When I got them I thought I'd be able to underclock them so they would run cooler/quieter but I found out that I wasnt able to do so. The many S3's and S5's that I had before these were great and quiet. S9's, not so much. |

How much sound reduction is it with this kit? Can you stick two Asics in there? Alternatively, I guess you can create one big tunnel?

Alternatively, I guess you can create one big tunnel? it fits 2 units and it allows you to direct the hot air out. use two 3-4 feet pieces of duct as intake use two longer pieces of duct as exhaust. and use this https://www.harborfreight.com/72-in-x-80-in-moving-blanket-69505.htmlover the box this setup does not restrict air flow so gear will not over heat. You will still hear the gear. s-9's are almost impossible to run quietly |

seems I have three options. 1. Live with the damn racket. Oh well, they will be great heaters for the work area this winter. 2. Move them to a Colocation that a friend of mine has some hardware at. 3. get rid of the damn things. I'm hoping to do #2 since that will dramatically quiet things down for me.  #3 will be last ditch and only if I HAVE to do it. Thanks for the replies guys! |

Because I moved them to Nicehash to mine. They wouldn't connect and mine before I flashed them but they did after the flash. Based on my 24 hours of mining there it was a good thing to do other than the increase in fan speed. |

The claim that bitmain firmware updates kill machines is an old wives tale. People flash the wrong firmware then blame bitmain for it. I have literally flashed over 10000 bitmain devices and never bricked a single controller. |

The claim that bitmain firmware updates kill machines is an old wives tale. People flash the wrong firmware then blame bitmain for it. I have literally flashed over 10000 bitmain devices and never bricked a single controller. This. If done right the flash process will go fine. |

Riddle me this batman  Why/how would moving an S9 from one pool to another make the stupid fans run faster? Is it possible that the miner works harder on a non Antpool connection? I dont want to say these things are whisper quiet now but the sound difference is very noticeable between when I'm connected to Antpool and when I'm not. As in, Antpool is quieter.  |

I know that some ETH pools are known to spit out shares with higher difficultly than other pools. Maybe BTC pools do the same? |

Can you see that the fan RPMs are lower on Antpool vs another? Or is it just the "sound" of the fans?! This is really interesting! |
