Event though Dara Khosrowshahi is a bitcoin fan, doesn't mean he will add bitcoin as another payment method for Uber as he did accepted bitcoin transaction in Expedia but through coinbase to proceed into fiat currency. And there's one obstacle;
Meanwhile, consumers are still showing no sign of adopting bitcoin as an everyday payment method, and adoption among merchants (other than Overstock) has stalled, so Uber may lack incentives to go for it.
Whether people willing to pay Uber using bitcoin or not due to the price that fluctuate a lot, maybe after you pay Uber and the next hour /day > bitcoin price increase significantly over $500.

We are not sure if he will actively support Bitcoin when he is in the office or not but is doing so then it would definitely help Bitcoin to grow in terms of users. The average number of Uber rides in 1 million rides every day, so even if 10% of them starts paying in Bitcoin, it will build awareness about Bitcoin and crypto-payments.

I am sure in next 5 years, we will have major online and offline stores accepting Bitcoin as a payment method against goods and services.

Interesting article about Uber's New CEO. Looks like Uber might be taking bitcoin soon.

http://fortune.com/2017/08/30/uber-ceo-dara-khosrowshahi-bitcoin/

Well nothing special here.

On the side note and a little bit of OT, they must learn how to follow rules and regulations.

Uber just fined 190M here in my country because of lack of regulations and didn't able to follow some of the rules. They enjoy their freedom because of poor governance prior to the new administration but now everything was changed because of new government. Look at their counterpart Grab operating without a problem because they follow protocol.

#ifonlyuberfollowsrulesthenwedonthavetotaketaxisanymore

I bet you're talking about the Philippines.

I beg to disagree with you because I don't see how uber had a "lack of regulations" and didn't follow some rules. What rules exactly didn't they follow? They actually complied to the required licensure as prescribed by the regulatory board, and I don't see how the offenses as pointed out by the agency only applied to Uber. The only difference was, Grab obeyed LTFRB's orders to stop hiring and accrediting new drivers but both Uber and Grab had regulation issues.

Politics aside, its good to hear that the Uber CEO is also a fan of Bitcoin. More power to Uber because of their excellent service.

Is this a joke?

Doesn't anyone remember why BTC was invented

Freedom from countries, central and regular banks, and all fascist organizations. Uber is one of the latter, tracking all its users' movements, with or without their knowledge. Having the Uber app is like having a picture of Adolf Hitler in the wallet. I'm sure the nazis would have loved a device which would record all the movements of the people. Uber did it, and they chose a German name to make it known to all that they're nazis.

But I guess Uber would a nice tool for the FBI and the CIA who want to control BTC. With the help of Uber, their job would be much easier to establish a who's who of all addresses in the blockchain.

Noted, but it also solve some real problems with transport challenges. Not everyone can own a car and most drunk people make use of their services too. < I know I use them, when I visited a bar with my friends >

You should then say the same about cell phones and GPS's and internet service providers. Technology has advantages and disadvantages and we should just accept that or decide not to use it.

Its a welcoming news really is she is fan of bitcoin, but it is different when you are running a big company and you have to exclude your personal belief here and not just implement it in your company. And I highly doubt that that the board or directors will allowed here, they may even kick her out if she insist on it. I know I also want to see Uber accepts bitcoin as mode of payment because it would be very practical for most of us who used their service. But I don't think that it is simple as flipping a coin and instantly the company supports it because their CEO is a bitcoin enthusiast.

Uber's accepting bitcoin sound good to hear and good idea, but the fact I saw with it, there is a leak disadvantages that is what if the internet connection is so weak, does the passengers need to wait for the confirmation before leaving the vehicle?

I think the rules that they didn't follow is the registration of new cars, those cars should registered as public utility vehicle. Accreditation is also another issue here, the difference for me is that mostly of Grab Drivers are also existing Taxi drivers which is registered already. Please do correct me if i'm wrong.

He was the guy behind Expedia which was one of the first major travel companies to be accepting bitcoins, so therefore i don't think that you are wrong at all in saying that we might be seeing Uber taking bitcoin soon.

We've seen uber drivers already accepting bitcoin as tips as well. Accepting payment direttly in bitcoin for uber will be a challenge though, because not every driver will know what it is and not all will be able to acecpt it.

This is just another proof that bitcoin has gained so much traction over the years that it's been around. It's got adopters all over the place now, even CEOs, and new users are joining everyday as well. I just hope that we can see even more merchants accepting btc in 2, 3 years time that you can comfortably live off bitcoin only.

I read somewhere that uber is already accepting btc. If not, then this might be the push that uber needs to FULLY accept bitcoin. It seems that everyone is now realizing the value of btc now.

Uber drivers could conceivably cut uber out of the equation and collect the entire fare for themselves.

Uber is an unnecessary middle man within the grand scheme of things and middle men have a tendency to be eliminated as walmart has shown with them reducing the links in the chain separating their suppliers from their distribution centers.

Uber has a reputation for indulging in some sexist and uncool things, adopting bitcoin may not be enough to save them or their brand.

Uber is engaging into illegally in our country in past few days due to drivres registration.  Though the service were very good and really convenient for the passengers to use Uber , they should fix the iaaue first and if ever they will use btc they must implement a proper rules and know the  outcome of it. There's lot to settle before it can happen.

I agree with you . Bitcoin is interested in many countries and is developing this model to suit life. I think Uber will be a pioneer in this and apply Bitcoin in everyday life and will be more convenient

Although being the CEO and an enthusiasts, there is a prospect in that regard but at the same time, he is not the board because decisions like that are not mere structural changes that could be at the volition of the CEO but accepting a new form of current y is surely going to need the approval of the board to go through with it which is something that might delay beyond measure

Uber is pretty famous here in my country, lot of commuters do love the services they give. Maybe CEO is brewing something out of the idea of Bitcoin somehow like another coin that can be used as a form of virtual money or virtual credit that can be used as a payment for the services that Uber offers.

This might not be 'hype'  the Bitcoin in my country, but it will do 'hype' (if there is, in the future) the Uber coin, it will be locally supported in my country.

In my country, Uber is being attacked constantly by the taxi drivers because they hate the competition that Uber is giving them. I never understood why taxi drivers must be approved by the state. Why not let a market develop? if you need an ID to drive, that is enough safety. You ask the Uber driver for his personal ID and also his driving license and that is enough information to confirm that he isn't a scammer with stolen information.

It is similar to bitcoin competing against state approved only money.

That's good news for the community and that's welcome news for people and if I remember correctly there was a thread out here which said Uber accepts Bitcoin in one of the country, I have forgotten the name but the article came right after its ex charhiman was removed, maybe they were already planning this. If Uber does decides to adopt it, will be huge for Bitcoin industry.

There is a big recent news about UBER here in our country. We preferred it over grab and taxis. It is a good thing that the UBER's new CEO is a Bitcoin fan. I hope that they will take into consderation using Bitcoin as a mode of payment when riding UBER cars. It will be more convenient for us.

Stop and take that tinfoil hat off. The FBI and CIA already is tracking you well without the need for Uber. If you want to start protecting your privacy in the age of the internet, you can start by going offline and live like a hermit.

I believe that in the future Uber will have no other choice but to use Bitcoin. The government in some countries have started to call for a ban on Uber. If the government orders banks to stop dealing with Uber, Bitcoin is the only clear recourse.
