Hi all,

So I know it's a LONG shot, but back in August of 2013, I had 40 BTC stolen.  Basically somebody hacked into my Gmail, found my wallet.dat file, and then moved my coins from my blockchain wallet (https://blockchain.info/tx/3ea2a7343d5623058ac7cc403d82e4fc9a351ef0e8818f1fe0d1b3351e6ad434).  I was quite dumb back then, and didn't have 2FA enabled on my Gmail.

I am not tech savvy enough to try to identify the perpetrator (though I know even if I was it's very difficult due to possible IP masking and use of a mixer), but is there any way I can post a bounty here for 5 BTC if somebody is able to track down my coins so I can retrieve them?  Or is there somewhere else I can post a similar bounty?

I know it's a very long-shot, but I feel like $25K USD may make it worthwhile to try for somebody.  I can obviously provide more detail (and some of that can be found here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=269443.msg2882400#msg2882400)

Thanks!

Edit / note: The bounty would be contingent on me retrieving some or all of the funds since I know it is a long shot and I'd need to get law enforcement involved. Apologizes if that was not clear in my original post.

I wish I had a way to help you.  Best of luck though, I hope you can recover them somehow.

Hey man just saw your post on 4chan. I've a couple of bad news.
If you found this guy, the bitcoins are gone, you can click on the blockchain and keep looking where those coins went, he did not keep them in the same place and it would be safe to assume that he spent them somewhere, therefor it would not even be possible to retrieve them.

btc I've been stolen, too, and there's no way to get back, so just stick it out because it's hard to get back, even if you want to protest to the blockchain wallet it will not help, because it's pure mistake because email does not have 2fa security, , the spirit, hopefully can be gained.

I likely agree.  However, I could get the authorities involved and maybe something could be done then assuming he has the means to purchase the equivalent (or some amount) of BTC to make me whole.

Hi,

Maybe we can trace the transaction that has made but there is a small chance to get it back.
40BTC now is a big amount of money. This will be a lesson for all. we should secure our wallet because you may not know when will the hackers will attack you.

An attacker could simply drive your bitcoins out through several exchanges. And everything, you will never see your hard earned money.

I am sorry for your loss, unfortunately, as others have said, the chances of tracking your coins or the person are minimal.
From what I saw by checking the Txid, the coins were sent from one address to another and another, one large transaction and one smaller, both then divided by two. Seems impossible. Cry

The dude who lost 45.8btc by wrongly transferring his coins to an electrum-wallet.com app before the August fork this year hasn't yet recovered them and OP you are hoping of resuscitating a long dead and buried issue since 2013? Come on dude, stop wasting your time. The coins are gone. Sorry about that.

 Shocked nearly 4 years ago.
I don't think there is any chance to get back those coins.

I know the truth hurts but it's always best to say it plainly and directly: your coins are irrecoverably gone.

The thief is incognito and the theft was perpetrated light years ago (well, in bitcoin years that is, given 72% of coins are now in circulation).

If the thief mixed the coins in a sophisticated way (such as trading them anonymously for altcoins, then retrading those altcoins back to bitcoins) then your chances of recovering them are almost as slim as you being elected the next US president.

There is also no incentive to claim the bounty since not only do you want the coins traced but you also want them recovered.

It is much despairing while reading you have lost a big amount but unfortunately you have lost all the recovering ways.
We know bitcoin is still anonymous and can left no footprints behind.
Now if you search his btc address on forums, may be you will find his profile somewhere with this btc address.

How so sad is this mate, my heart brokes while reading this thread. I hope you get the chance to claim this 40 btc again.
Anyway, if the theft use the btc in alt coins I guess it cannot be track anymore. But if you can see the same address here in the forum I guess that is the way you can have it.

I tried to follow the transaction but it seems that it was passed to many addresses and possibly that it was an exchange. And yeah, it's a long shot now 4 years had passed and the hacker for sure used it somewhere or spent it already. I'm sorry for your lost mate even how big the bounty is, it's hard to give a shot on this.

Maybe something could have been done if you had taken any action right away when you saw your BTC missing the user made multiple transfers to addresses which were only used once to do transactions of your funds so I assume your money is gone even if you file a report in real life I doubt that will do anything since its been 3-4 years after it happened and especially when Crypto-currencies have legal support only in specific countries you should still try your luck and wish for the best hope you get your money back.

You can track the person behind it if you look at it closely you can track one address where it was spend if you find what address I'm talking about you can start asking about the merchant in your local city if they have a person who has an address like this one it only have a 2 transaction you can start at this one if you found out who this person was you can ask him/her who send him the amount of 0.7 or this is the perpetrator. Good luck though  the possibility of this coins to be found was very low however it is not impossible it is up to you to track your coins.

I wish I could help you but unfortunately, stolen btc coins cannot be tracked down or recovered. The attacker could already used your money in several transactions. Im sorry for your loss. But maybe you can still look up who is/are the authorities involved in this.

Can you identify how precise is your location according to these details? This would help me to get some details of hacker similarly.

My location?  No, I was nowhere close to Bellingham Washington.

And to everyone else, I appreciate the feedback.  Agreed that it's close to impossible, but want to make sure that's the case because it's obviously a lot of money.
