So I have alot of mining dust in my wallet and I am trying to learn how to clean it up so I dont get raped form huge fees. I mean I just sent 550 worth of bitcoin to buy some newer gear and it costed me 200 bucks in fees. So every one keeps telling me to consolidate the micro payments in the address to a new address using the lowest fees. So since I have truly never ran my own wallet and just used a app. I am now trying to learn how to do this my self.  So I have set up this transaction in my wallet spending the max amount from the address that has all the micro payments from my mining to another address in my wallet, using the lowest fee the wallet would let me. I would like to know if it will ever confirm or not. I also don't understand why the amount says 0. I am a hobby poor miner LOL so the total amount I am sending is only .0398 Could some one answer if it would confirm and why it says 0.?

Your transaction should confirm eventually, but it may take several days. You will probably need to rebroadcast the transaction every day or so to keep the network reminded that the transaction exists.

Should I increase the fee a little more and do you know why it say amount sent 0. in the output is say the amount I am sending just wanna make sure I am doing it right.

Can you post the transaction ID or an address you sent to so we can check how long the transaction should take to confirm?

If you sent it to a company, then it'll say 0 until it gets between about 3 and 10 confirmations.

If your fee is more than 10 satoshi per byte, use this accelerator: https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

If you can afford to, try to boos the fee by about 7 times - if you want to use a TX accelerator service. However, there are miners here who offer acceleration services who will do it for 0.001btc as far as I can recall (maybe try to find one of those users, you could also get a quote from the user quickseller for getting a fast acceleration - though I suspect that will be greatly expensive for a transaction that size).

Time really isn't an issue for me. As long as it confirms, i don't know within a week. But being able to afford is LOL, but really It was more about learning how to consolidate micro transactions so I don't get hit with massive fees next time I go to buy something like last time 200 bucks for a 550 dollar transaction. I get why it was so much just trying to insure it doesnt happen again.

But based off that transaction I am still unsure about the satoshi per byte I thought the one I just sent was more than 10 satoshi per byte could you explain how many  satoshi per byte was in that transaction? I do see now on blockchain the transaction was 1.66 per byte. but still lost

You've created a transaction that has only ~1 sat/byte fee... it could take a while for that to be picked up. However, the mempool is relatively empty at the moment (less than 10K transactions) so you might get lucky

The transaction has been marked as RBF... so if it gets stuck for a lengthy period, you might want to consider bumping the fee up to 10 sats/byte (0.0001 BTC/kB in Electrum)... then you can try and use the ViaBTC TX Accelerator

Electrum uses BTC/kB as opposed to sats/byte... in Bitcoin world a kB = 1000 bytes... so: 10 sats/byte = 0.00010000 BTC/kB


If you REALLY want to avoid such issues in the future... you're better off trying to consolidate the payments BEFORE you receive them... ie. use a service that lets you specify a minimum payment threshold and set that to like 0.001 or higher... 0.005 would be OK, 0.01 would be better

Thanks for the explanation! I would love to be able to set a payment threshold but currently it is not a option on the pool,  So until it changes I will have to just keep learning and doing this to avoid huge fees.  Or bring on some more mining power. Which hopefully I can do with my payouts from the pool like I did this time. 

If it doesn't clear in a couple of days I will up it, not really worried about time just if I did it correctly. Which apparently I didn't since the fees was 1.66 when I thought it was 10.66. Learning always comes from mistake.

I would make each tx around 3,000 Bytes, that is around 16 inputs with a fee of 5,000 satoshis (or 10k)
and using compressed address could save you a few bytes shorter in tx size
doing it now probably wouldn't as easy (confirmed) as I did in 2015
look at my address here, you can see lots of my dust inputs (<10k sats) way below yours (<50k sats)

or you could use web wallet address or any site deposit address as intermediary address (with risk)
but you need to find one that don't mind receiving multiple small amount btc deposits,

Oh I see, I think I get your point so in the future I should do this weekly or every couple of days, so I dont have to do so many at once, which costs more. so is it the number of transactions that determines the size of the transaction? On the other side does it take the miner longer to mine something like this versus one that only has say 10 inputs?

It is amazing your transaction are still unspent or balance since 2015. Saving it for a rainy day or just have so much that amount is way on the bottom lol.

Currently, It's all about size, which is mostly related to number of inputs and, to a lesser extent, number of outputs...

Inputs are generally around 148 bytes each (for compressed addresses, 180 for older uncompressed ones)... Whereas outputs are 34 bytes each...

Fees are generally calculated on a sats/byte basis, as block size is limited so the space in a block is the "in demand" item that is the basis for the supply/demand system that causes fees to go up and down...

When we don't have many transactions, you can pay less... When tens (hundreds?) Of thousands of transactions, fees go up as more and more people are competing for the limited block size...

It isn't more difficult to mine a larger transaction... It just takes up more room, so if the fee is low... It is reducing the space for higher fee transactions which means the miner gets less income...


A lot of this may change now that SegWit has activated... New address types, the possibility of larger blocks and offchain transactions etc... Interesting times ahead!
