It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I'm pretty sure bitcoin as a payment and ransomware was a popular method among hackers for years already. It's just that they're now more into demanding for bitcoin due to it probably being alot easier to attain and sell, and also because of it's pseudo anonymity instead of Ukash like in the past. Whether or not bitcoin goes mainstream, we should expect alot more methods on how hackers can steal our money. As techonology is evolving every year, so is their methods and ideas on how to exploit for their own benefit.

I do not really understand what you are saying, however, when prompted by ransomeware, many people think of bitcoin as an accomplice. That is a false sense of error. Bitcoin is the victim, it has been exploited and its reputation has been tarnished.

Bitcoin being mainstream is not gonna happen in the short. Right now it has got the virtual presence without a physical state. This is not that easily understandable from the common people as well it has got lots of security concerns. So I don't think this becomes a mainstream.

if bitcoin goes mainstream "ransomeware" will die because by then it means people finally have realized that bitcoin is not anonymous and ransomeware will either die or switch back to the good old US dollar that it has been using for years before bitcoin ever existed.

Yup! even if bitcoin having a publicly been told on the T.V. and have been announced as a great investment many people will not surely grab it and have a go with their money because of the lack of knowledge towards it and besides it will surely not gonna make it on mainstream media there is no highly possible thing as that!

There is no relation of the Bitcoin and ransomware. The first ransomware attack took place in the year 1989 and targeted the healthcare industry.

* A HISTORY OF RANSOMWARE ATTACKS: THE BIGGEST AND WORST RANSOMWARE ATTACKS OF ALL TIME.

Yes, hackers are using Bitcoin to ask for the ransom but that's not the fault of the Bitcoin. These attacks will keep increasing with the evolution of the new technologies such as cryptocurrencies, I.O.T etc but nothing to worry, we will have strong anti-virus programs to deal with these attacks.

While true that regular Bitcoin businesses will benefit from Bitcoin going mainstream, I don't think that's necessarily the case for the "business model" of ransomware.

If a regular business only accepts Bitcoin, people without knowledge of Bitcoin will naturally use a different business that offers a similar service. Regular businesses can't "force" people to use Bitcoin, ransomware by its very definition can do just that (or rather: Ransomware developers can choose any form of payment they see fit. What are you going to do, switch to different ransomware?) -- so no, it makes no difference for ransomware whether Bitcoin becomes mainstream.

With bitcoin being considered already as popular, here comes many transactions and uses of bitcoin and it can be legal or illegal. These ransomwares are part of the illegal, they're mainstream in the beginning because it came to a point that it is somehow uncontrollable. Ransomwares uses bitcoin for its anonimity.

Seeing that price only keeps on getting higher, ransomware would still be around that asks for bitcoins. Main target for this would be companies that have their security low. We wouldn't be able to get rid of it since money is always tied with evil things. Also, fiat suffers the same so why does bitcoin need to suffer the blame at all times?

It's easy to get away with bitcoin that's why they ask for it on payments.

Ransomware isn't really tied to Bitcoin, Bitcoin just makes it a bit easier for ransomware producers to scam people (who are often dumb enough to get viruses off of emails or similar content). Ransomware is also close to mainstream anyways right now, considering the recent attacks on the NHS in the UK, and the other ransomware events we've seen. Bitcoin hasn't rocketed off from that (presumably), so it would be unlikely that the inverse would be true.

I think its not about Ransomware but maybe the hack on bitcoin wallet, bitcoin exchanges will escalated not only because its going mainstream but because the price is really going strong now. So its really up to us on how we are going to protect ourselves in this kind of attack.

I'm pretty sure bitcoin as a payment and ransomware was a popular method among hackers for years already. It's just that they're now more into demanding for bitcoin due to it probably being alot easier to attain and sell, and also because of it's pseudo anonymity instead of Ukash like in the past. Exactly, ransomware was being used in past but they are now demanding bitcoin as payment because they think that it is anonymous. That's why I said that it depend on the individual not to just click anything in the web so that they can protect themselves from such hacks.

to be honest, your questions does not make sense. Ransomware is already mainstream. Through ransomware many people hear for the first time about bitcoin. They open a mail and suddenly they have to pay with magical internet money to decrypt their data.

The people behind Ransomware might decide that Bitcoin is not anonymous enough and they might request people to pay them in another Alt coin, for example : Monero

Bitcoin is currently used as the default payment option, because it can be easily acquired by the people that has to pay the ransom. These people also request Bitcoin, because it can be used at more merchants to buy goods and to pay for services.

Are we talking about WannaCry, I think it is and old news now. SambaCry and one of the latest that belongs to its family and is made for windows, its name just skipped from my mind are new in market now. Anyways, never pay the ransom especially not in bitcoins.
