Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Could it be that it's because of Casper? When ETH will activate it all the miners will be forced to move to ETC...

but will they?
as far as i know the difficulty bomb was injected like a Trojan horse into the code in the early days which can only mean ETC also has this Trojan horse inside of it and it will also fall to the same fate as ETH.

it is most probably because ETH is going to be crumbling in the upcoming months and its price will most probably fall hard. that is why the investors are seeking an alternative for their money. what better than the original ethereum called ETC!

Buying the dip...

Wow, it is spiking. I do not know this will happen, I missed the profit on this one. I do not know any valid reason why this is happening, cannot find any news about it either. Is it just random wealthy guy pumping this coin?

The probable reason is the announcement (or rather the opening of the registration) for the 1st annual
ETC Summit in Hong Kong later this year:

Besides, ETC could benefit hugely, if China or the US crack down on the ICO frenzy surrounding Ethereum which
could crash the ETH price completely.

Probably another reason, because less supply leads to a price increase. Similar stuff happened with the BTC block reward halving  Wink
