Hello everyone. This is my first post.

I read several topics about this but I try to understand with a specific example to understand this 100 slots for wallet.dat:

Let's says I used 50 slots of my wallet and took a backup to a flash disc. Then I used 70 more slots but then lost my wallet. Let's say I restored my wallet from flash disc. In this case I used 120 slots but used backup of 50 slots.

In this case will I lose any coins?

Use the new version of Bitcoin Core with HD wallet and you only have to backup once.  You don't need to worry about 100 "slots" anymore.

Regarding your question...

It depends.

If you ONLY receive coins, and you use 50 addresses, then the backup only has 50 unused addresses remaining (unless you unlock your wallet for some reason).

If you unlock your wallet when you use the 48th address (perhaps to send some bitcoins), then the backup that you create after the first 50 addresses will have 98 unused addresses remaining.

Thanks for your reply.
What I tried to mean is having a new backup creates me an extra 100 slots or not?

And what I tried to explain is that it depends on the situation.

If your wallet is unlocked so that it can generate the private keys, then yes you get another 100 addresses.

If your wallet is not unlocked, then it can not generate more private keys and you do not get another 100 addresses.

Sorry for my newbie questions and misunderstandings.

So, in order to get another 100 slots, should I uncrypt wallet and then encrypt again and then take a backup?

Oh, I've just realised that I'm already using HD wallet. I didn't do anything special; just using the latest version. Thanks a lot.
