Just venting a bit, I think this is the right section for this particular issue.

Spent some time in 'project development' helping someone who had a problem running some python code, no biggie, spent some time looking how to solve his problem.

Guy messages me afterwards asking how to double spend, that was the whole point of his question in the first place -_-.

Uhm yeah, I definitely feel kinda stupid for trying to help him in the first place if that was his end goal.

Thread in question:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2138971.0

PM's:

!!! WARNING: This user is a newbie. If you are expecting a message from a more veteran member, then this is an imposter !!!

Hello! Thanks for the help in my topic.

I am trying to learn how to double spend or something like that.

Or how to perform a RBF to a different address.

Is there any information you know that you can share with me about these topics?

Thansk
Sorry, I can't help you with that, it's against my ethical beliefs to teach people how to double spend.

I would really advise you to not go through with it, it's basically scamming people, if that's your intent.

Even if you're doing it for research purposes, I can't help you.

I know it's just a newbie member and this is just a really really small issue, but I'm just logging it here in case he does double spend somewhere and uses the same username or something like that.

What's an RBF?  I profess ignorance on this, but I'm pretty sure I know what
a double spend is.

It shouldn't be surprising that someone is trying to do this; you've certainly
seen all the scammers that congregate here.  Good for you for calling him
out on it in public. That's the right thing to do.  Ethics seems to be a
concept that a lot of bitcointalk members have trouble with.  A LOT.

RBF means Replace By Fee, he was just asking on how to install Replace-by-Fee Tools from Github.
Asking about this doesn't mean anything, could also be used for legitimate purposes, but after that PM, it was pretty clear that wasn't his intent.

I just Googled ' how to double spend ' and the first things that come up are also related to RBF, so yeah, I probably helped a scammer a little bit in the end.

Or the guy was trying to double spend for a legitimate purpose, perhaps? Dunno..

You'll be surprised at how people lose their ethics when they are anonymous.

I'm proud to have my identity fully known.  Smiley

If you want to double spend, just create something like Bitcoin Cash. Smiley

Tell that to some devs out there that wants to separate themselves from the main chain Wink

I've also been PM'ed about the same double-spending how-to's but I just don't reply since they can just search it if theyre willing to. Ethics and morality aren't something we can control even if we're mods of this forum but we can always just ignore them for what they're asking.

Also, there are still some respectful human beings around this forum that knows how to apologize especially if they commented something below the belt. It's nice to have them here still..
