I think Theymos should offer these emails to us for a one-time fee. That would help spread knowledge of Bitcoin really fast. Spread via business cards, standard email use, etc. I'd also like to have one in general.

Do you want to spam my inbox? How does that helps us?

What does spam have to do with it? @OP Not a bad idea. Though, my suggestion would be to make them on the expensive side if it's ever done. That way people aren't creating tons of them.

He means a personalized email like John@bitcointalk.org , not the list of the emails of the forum members. (duh!)

It would be hard to decide to use, as how long would the service be available? No one would know. It would be very hard to beat gmail, and gmail comes free.

I don't think it'd be used as a mail email, but more of a vanity thing for bitcoin related stuff.

Make it a mail forwarding service. That is, anything sent to dree12@bitcointalk.org would be sent with identical headers to other.email.address+bitcointalk@provider.com.

Buy your own bitcoin related domain for like $10 per year. Add gmail for $5 per month. Plenty of bitcoin related domains still available.

It would be nice if this were done for staff so that we would look more official on any emails we send, but it might also make a good reward for donators and above.

Make it a mail forwarding service. That is, anything sent to dree12@bitcointalk.org would be sent with identical headers to other.email.address+bitcointalk@provider.com. Something like this would work out great. However, there should be limits on how it would work out. Instead of being a Jr Member with the base limits, restrict the said emails to Hero Members only. Therefore, only established hero members can have 1 email linked to their account. Let them set the prefix of the email to whatever they want. For Sr Members you could charge something like $25 a year I guess. It shouldn't be easy to purchase with pocket change. Mind you, these would help promote these forums as well, but we wouldn't want uneducated users to be spreading false information about Bitcoin. If anything, a forwarding service would be nice. Forward from jaywaka2713@bitcointalk.org to jaywaka2713@gmail.com. Or we could include it for a 1 BTC donation fee. There are endless ways to pay or qualify.

Would it be possible to redirect just the MX records to Google apps and have them worry about managing it for you? I mean, obviously you wouldn't be able to authenticate forum accounts against it, and probably wouldn't want to, anyway. But if the mods needed it, it could be handy. Then your only administrative costs would be the time put into creating the accounts for them and the updating of your SPF entry, plus the few bitcoin per year for hosting a Google Apps account.
It might even help out with this odd reoccurring spam flagging bug. If Gmail sees there is more legit emails getting sent without the "Topic Reply:" or "New personal message:" subject prefixes, maybe they will quit randomly filtering emails from the domain into spam folders. I don't know, though, you'd have to distinguish whether or not this is a "it'd be nice to have" or "this is becoming necessary" thing.
The paranoid in me thinks even Google could get "compromised" and provide US authorities with access to the emails as a justification for some sort of broader "attack" on Bitcoin, and not even notify you guys that they are doing so. Gets pretty frightening rather quickly.

Does Sirius control bitcointalk.org (or just bitcoin.org)? If so, it seems like you should be talking to him about it, not Theymos.
edit: I've PMed Sirius to get his opinion on it as I believe he is the one in control of the domains, and as Theymos has said he's too lazy to handle it, it may be something Sirius would be happy to do as a way of giving back to the people who have donated literally millions of dollars in bitcoins to this very forum.

How about adding the feature to those who donate 10 and 50 BTC? I think that's worth it.

I'd love to buy an @bitcointalk.org email, and think it's a great idea. Hope to see this implemented.
