What are some reasons to want lots of money that doesn't involve materialism? I can think of two.

1: Travel
Travelling to forigen countries and other parts of your country can be fun, but it can also be quite expensive. Plane tickets can cost thousands of dollars, for example.

2: Healthcare
If you look up "John and Schoep," you'll find a true story about how a man is able to afford laser treatment for his aging dog because of donations, where he was only able to afford basic medication before.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Travel is also materialism in my mind. You want something you can't have where you are.

And second one is just a upkeep cost for your materialism, like vintage car...

Almost anything is materialism Grin

Ekaros is correct. Anything that goes towards any type of material is materialism. Whether that material be your house or your wife.

My name was simply a play on "Blue Engineer" from Team Fortress. I am not affiliated with Microsoft or the Azure project.

Well, I guess you know what I mean, not in the sense of wanting fancy clothes or fancy jewelery or a fancy car, etc.

Art is one waste, it can be more expensive than drugs Grin

I think after certain level it's about pleasure or endorphins. It is what almost all people really seek with anything...

I knew a woman in Mississippi who worked all her life, and was still working in her mid-60's, living as cheaply as possible, saving all her money, having it all willed to the Catholic Church, with nary a living relative to hold up the funds in probate.

God bless her!

She lived in town, but installed a hand pump for water in her yard prior to the imminent crash of Y2K. Luckily, she never had to use it thanks to all the geeks fixing the worldwide issue.

God bless the geeks!
