Mounting miners in plywood

I am researching ideas to set up a small farm. Most have a cool and a hot side with cool air being brought in on one side and hot air exhausted on the other. The miners though are just sitting on shelves in the middle.

What if you made a room with a plywood wall dividing it in half and cut square holes in the plywood and slid the miners in the holes so the room was effectively sealed between the hot and cold sides with the only airflow between the sides being through the miners?

You could have a big fan sucking cool air into the cool side and a big fan pushing hot air out the other side.

Thoughts?

Should work, and if you set it up right you should not need the external fans at all.

 Reference the Yahoo "chicken coop" datacenter design, with is in it's core basis a VERY similar idea.

We use wire rack shelfing for our miners we then use fire proof boarding to build the room around the shelfing.  I would use something thats fire proof as you never know what might happen with miners and power while plywood is cheap and effective it will go up like a two bob rocket if the shit hits the fan.

Used to divide hot and cold sides.

If your planning a long term mine then fire security and fire action plan is a 100% must have..

We use this racking and board off the back side with the fire board and cut holes for each miner to poke its exhaust fan through.

But to answer your question anyting will work. its all down to the effort you want to put into it and what is best suitable for your budget and mine.

Where are you located? I wouldn't use plywood, and I would never consider it. Plywood, even at 10mm+ marine grade is still a firehazard, and it will catch fire at anywhere close to 108C. Just to give you a little perspective, a functioning S9 exhaust side is around 92-98C 1 burnt board and your house burns down. Might not be a good idea

My 100KW hosting center uses solid shelving with a backing isolating the hot exhaust from the rest of the room, with cut-to-fit penetrations for miners. Everyone who's asked me for advice on setting up miners en masse, I've told them to do just that. Hot aisle isolation is the most important thing for keeping a cooling system efficient.

Could use sheet rock AKA gymson (sp) board instead of the plywood - THAT stuff is highly fire resistant and I'm pretty sure it handles higher temps than wood.

I find it difficult to believe plywood would ignite at such a low temp though, since PAPER doesn't ignite 'till well over 200C for most grades of paper.

instantly? no, but over time.......say, 2-3 months? possible.........+ a spark? shorted circuits? electrical wirings? you get the idea

I was mainly curious about the mounting them in holes thing as I have not seen it done.
