ok for example im mining with nanopool and they have about a 1% fee. now if i was mining solo id get the entire block reward when found right versus just a portion?
now is there the profability vs solo vs pool mining does it boil down to only a 1% fee or will i be getting more ether overall above and beyond 1% since i will keep the whole block to myself?

With solo mining you would get entire block reward but it's better with pool mining because you don't know when you will find block. Fee for pool mining isn't big and this solution is much safer for your earnings. Solo mining is good if you have very big hash.
