Ukrainian lawmakers met on Thursday to discuss cryptocurrency regulation. They have agreed to settle on the legal status of bitcoin in three weeks.

Ukrainian Lawmakers Discuss Bitcoin

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers on the Financial Stability Board met on Thursday to discuss the issue of cryptocurrency regulation, local news outlet Nv.ua reported based on Facebook posts by participants. Particularly, they engaged in a debate about the legal status of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The Cabinet of Ministers is the highest body of state executive power in the country.

“Everyone understands the importance of blockchain and cryptocurrency as innovative technologies, the importance of developing the industry, protecting against illegal actions by various bodies and reasonable regulatory support,” Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Council Tymofiy Mylovanov explained.

The Chairman of the National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC), Timur Khromaev, added:

"The question of blockchains, bitcoins, tokens and other technology solutions have already become an integral part of the financial market. Our task is to provide the corresponding legal status of these instruments in the Ukrainian financial market."

They have agreed to settle on the legal status of bitcoin in three weeks

let's wait three weeks from now if these politicians will do something beneficial for bitcoin or they have some hidden plan up their sleeve.

I do not know how many people use bitcoin in Ukraine so it's hard to know what impact it will have for bitcoin in case the news is beneficial for bitcoin

I do not understand why many european countries such as England, Germany, Italy, France, Portugal, Belgium and many other European countries have not legalized bitcoin until today.

Yeah, let's wait this three weeks and see will something be changed about Bitcoin's regulation on the territory of Ukraine. It is going to be great if they coould to do something constant for a such short period of time. I know that their big neighbour Russia is talking about crypto-currencies regulation and necessary laws about it for a year already, but everything they do is just delaying with that.
If Ukraine will be the first in Europe who legalize bitcoin it will automatically raise the status of the country and I supose other countries will take their experiense as the example.

What are they gonna legalise next? Pyjamas? Flowers?

The arrogance is astounding. "Oh, people are making (and losing money) on a financial instrument we can't control, let's make public statements about how concerned we are!"

Maybe gangsterments should just shut up and let it be. They only serve to make themselves look even weaker when they make the bold pronouncement "there's no Bitcoin policy yet, except to make it legal, and we're going to be watching, super-close!!!". No-one gives a shit how closely they watch, when there's nothing they can do to save their precious AML laws, it turns out regular people can use their money exactly how they want too, not just the gangsterment "representatives" and their corporate protection racket sycophants, boo-hoo.

There's nothing they can do, without cancelling every part of human rights law in their statute books (although, let's face it, they're already well on the way to doing that to save us from mysteriously crazy psychos attacking public places, who have seemingly no demands or objectives, and who all seem to have mysteriously popped into existence at the same time the gangsterments started to lose control)

Currently Bitcoin is not illegal in Ukraine - it's in a gray area, meaning that people can use it freely as the government does not prohibit or regulate it (though it probably can't be used as payment method because there's only one allowed currency for payment in Ukraine). It's pretty clear, judging from this article and previous claims from Ukrainian government, that Bitcoin soon will be regulated, and those new laws would be similar to existing Bitcoin laws in EU or US. This is a bit bad, because people will have less freedom than they have now, but on the other hand it can be worse - some governments might just outlaw it or set up very harsh regulations.

knowing how ukrainian legislation is,it is not about legalisation per se
the country is in deep shit and all they need and want is money to help the goverment last as long as they can
so there will be another draconian law this time regarding bitcoins, because there are simply no other type of laws that have been passed past 3 years since the coup d'etat
this has something to do with the recent searches and arrests of the miners, they realised that this is another opportunity to tax people who mine or have bitcoins
the "legalisation" will be ,in reality, taxes and control, nothing good will come of it

Governments would not take any attention on bitcoin if it's price would stay small, like under 400$. But today the price is high and all of them are hurrying to regulate it to make people to pay even more taxes. I think they will not stay bitcoin and crypto currencies as it is, no, it's a new big source of money for them. So, soon we will face with a huge wave of mass legalization and regulation. But I suppose this can make the price to raise more higher.

Ukrainian politicians actively use bitcoin. They indicate this when filling in the income statement. This step is not for people, but for them, imho.

not for people that is for sure, the parlament members have declared hundreds and hundreds of coins
this could be to legalise their "income" so one year you declare 1000 bitcoins, next year you are a proud millionaire, officially

The economy of Ukraine is very weak and therefore I do not believe that the government has good intentions with the legalization of bitcoins. It seems to me that the government is taking this step to control the currency and then completely ban it

Three weeks is plenty of hours to discuss how to milk Bitcoin users in their country.  Sadly, these lawmakers are only for money that this new trend of cryptocurrency is giving.  They pretend they are for the benefits or welfare of the masses but deep inside they are longing to have a grasp on that "Bitcoin Tax"  and hunt down bitcoin users that failed to pay taxes. Oh well, regulations, tax, crack down, what else?  When government steps in there will always be disarray.
