First, you have to exchange it and get a wire into your bank account from a crypto exchange and then you have to wire it to China. Wiring amounts over $10,000 obligates banks to have to perform extra AML checks and inform the relevant authorities including the tax man. It certainly can't be done quickly and could cause all sorts of unforeseen problems in the future.

I think it was pretty clear from the very beginning that this group buy will use BTC as a payment method to gather funds. I don't know how this can be so surprising to mr. Steven Mosher. With all respect.

I also definitely would not send that kind of money wire transfer especially if you need to exchange from btc.
What does surprise me is that they only take btc if you order 59 units.
On the site they have skids of 60 units and 3 controllers and they are noted wire transfer only.
We will see. Hopefully with btc trending up today there is not much risk to them.

Well it is simple I have to do it in BTC or I can not do it. Mostly due to USA banking rules.
So if canaan wants a bank transfer the deal is dead.
I will see if they come back with a btc offer.
I have a guess that they will not. My reasoning is they have a restriction on BTC to cash exchange.
I have one here in the USA which is why I have to do it in BTC.
My apologies to all, but better this then losing more then 75,000 US dollars on a government seizure.
I will leave thread open for venting, but don't blame canaan or me most likely it is a case of governments and their rules about commerce.
oh well.
I guess I will go back to my gpu thread.

It's a bummer, but I was starting to wonder if this would happen with the size of the order we were talking about. Don't blame you or Canaan. I do appreciate you and sidehack putting up so much effort for little return. Now, if Steve can help get my order (#89619) done, that would be great! For some reason they responded to my ticket to say that Lily would respond with BTC address information... and then somehow deleted my order number (on receipt) from the ticket. Now it looks like my ticket number is driving my place in line? (#89790 & #89774?). This system is confusing...

Well, balls.
Guess I'm bringing in a hundred PSUs for nothing, unless the BTC issue gets resolved. Still hoping for that, because this was gonna be a pretty cool thing to get done.
Hopefully they'll be able to work it out. I mean it's an $80k sale just sitting in their laps with exactly one not unreasonable condition.

yeah but they could be in the same spot I would be in which means neither one of us can bend due to government rules. Maybe we do 2 orders of 50 a week to 10 days apart. I will float this by them.

That could work.
If it works well enough, we could keep rotating buys like that as a regular thing for a while. Certainly seems to be demand.

I will email if we can do this. I sent a reply to their emails asking if we can do 50 then 50 with a 10 day gap in-between . Maybe they can do this. If not this is over with.

no the paperwork involved kills the deal for them. from Lily Han of canaan Dear Philip
Many thanks for your movement, the gourp buy helped us a lot, we really don't have time to handle all the customers.
I need the following information to make the PROFORMA INVOICE, they are also necessary for shipping.
1. Your exact shipping address. 2. Contact person and contact number for receiving goods.
I have some information need to know, this information will be related to import customs clearance.
3. Do you have a company located in the U.S? 4. Do you or your company have the import license or import BOUND?
If you don't have a company, import license or import BOUND, that's ok, we can let or broker to help you deal with this.
Kind regards Lily

I think that this would help Canaan a lot as well, so I'm hopeful that they do everything to make this go through ok.
I would like to thank you Philip and sidehack for all the effort so far for this group buy. You definitely earn your 1 unit per guy.

It is hard to do this. My restriction is I have to use btc to send to them. They may have a btc cap of some kind thus the under 60 no bank transfer over 60 must be a bank transfer. We have 1 buyer that may get shut out get get btc wants to pay in bank transfer 23 buyers and 8 countries are involved: China USA Canada Russia Finland Malaysia Germany Austria oh a dozen on a wait list I

Halo Platform is one of the fastest Blockchains I've seen yet. They have FREE transactions. 250 Millisecond Block speeds. Smart contracts, Masternodes, blockchain games, and their own high speed DEX with BTC/ETH/USDC pairs. Similar to ETH, Waves, EOS, and more yet with only $1 million mcap. This video showcases the speed and reliability of the blockchain using the DEX, Masternodes (that will soon payout in BTC and ETH), blockchain games, and more! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g74d3ixX7E8&feature=youtu.be

Splitting the group buy into smaller orders is a great idea, and I'm for it. Hopefully Canaan can work something out since they have quite a bit of demand from the community.

For what it's worth, this rule has been stated pretty clearly on their site for at least a few weeks. The rule was not changed. Canaan is piss poor at communication, but they communicated this one bit of information pretty well.

I was clear enough on thread that is was always btc. and steve posted on thread. plus we had pm talks. I know you are annoyed but look at this from my viewpoint 12 hours labor so far most likley all for naught. and from sidehacks view point he placed a large order for psu's. and 59 units no bank order 60 units bank order first pm's were as low as 30 cards plus screen shots just taken do not say bank order only https://i.imgur.com/EdtaO2z.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/9Rl8Avg.png
