Hey all. I'm pretty new to the bitcointalk scene, so please point me in the right direction if I'm in the wrong place.

I have a new coin idea, and I want to talk about it here, because I'm assuming there is at least someone here that knows what they are talking about.

Anyways, My coin idea is making a coin for faucet owners to give out as payment and then the users trade in that coin for the coin of their choice at exchange sites. I did a bit of research on coins like this and I found DropCoin, I think that's the official name. I didn't see much activity from them in awhile so I'm assuming the coin died. I guess the whole point of this post is to find out if there is already a coin like this that is still living, or if there is one in the works. If there isn't one now I'm sure someone will make one faster than I can after posting this.

Also I would to like to talk about what to do and what not to do when trying to make a coin. As this is the first coin I am attempting to make, I am very inexperienced. Also I am not the best coder, so what coin would be best to attempt to fork for a coin like the one I am trying to make?

I realize that it seems like I am asking for a lot of handouts, but I don't want to just push out a new coin and it fails like thousands of others. If I am asking for too much, please don't respond. I will get the point. It would most likely be better for me in the long run to research all of this my self, but I would like others' opinions too.

I dont think It's a good idea without PR-team, tons of money on marketing and experienced project team. It is literally impossible for one person to bring out the new token, if you're not Satoshi Nakamoto, hehe

Well I wasn't necessarily trying to make a money making scheme. I just thought it would be cool coin to make.

I don't this it's a very good idea. When people use faucets, it's because they want to get some coin which already has some value. Nobody want some intermediary yet-another-random-altcoin between them and the faucet.
IMHO, people just wouldn't use faucets which would be paying in your coins.

Ya that is true. I was thinking, say someone wants litecoin and bitcoin, but they don't want to keep track of and use numerous faucets. They could use the few faucets that pay in my coin, and then the users could trade out my coin for the coin that they choose from the faucet site, or just get a payout and exchange it on trading sites. In my mind it would create more freedom for the user and could possibly bring more attention to the faucet.

New coins are dead, ICO's are dead, exchanges will not list your new coin. You can however pick one of the 800 coins and join the team. Again, here is no need for any new shitcoin, help an existing project instead is best. 😗

But what if it was an entirely new coin with an entirely knew idea? I think it might then gain some traction. Not saying my idea is totally original, because I'm sure it's not.

There are now 866 Currencies, 233 Assets and 5433 Markets on https://coinmarketcap.com/  And that's not including all the failed, non-published and abandoned attempts. What's one more attempt going to accomplish? On a positive note, the pursuit of creating your own token may provide you with some valuable insight into the technology.

Look at ShapeShift and see if that inspires some ideas for your project. Specifically: https://info.shapeshift.io/tools/shifty-button

I say: "why not". If you feel strongly enough that you have a good idea, whether it is original or not is irrelevant. There are countless reasons not to do something, but you only need one reason to do it. Take some time to build your knowledge then go for it. In general, I'd recommend forking your coin from one of the existing big ones rather than creating a token, but for what you've mentioned, maybe a token is 'good enough' for an intermediary coin. The advice to join another coin or two or three to learn from them is not a terrible idea either Smiley

Ya like the idea you and some others said. Join and help out an existing coin before making my own. To learn ropes. But how would I go about doing that?

I actually agree with this. The thing is, it is fully your responsibility to make this work, if you are really motivated to do so. Despite what others say, ICOs aren't "dead". China's crackdown isn't because ICO's don't work, it's because the ICO culture just shot themselves in the foot. The rampant money grabbing culture and blatant disregard for investors' interest, is a reflection of how both investors and ICO projects reinforced the concept of an ICO as a "Free money as long as I use hype words and cool graphs" opportunity.

The space of possibilities with token currencies is still largely unexplored, and its process of maturation is bound to be accompanied with pain and hiccups.

That being said, I am not particularly optimistic about your coin idea, but I do encourage people to be creative and explore the possibilities, as long as they take it seriously and do it for the right reasons. I think in general it's good to ask yourself the question of what a token is, what its unique properties are, and if there's good reason to use it in whatever you're making or building. Is it a store of value? Does it confer unique rights? Is it an API key? Even if you're not a coder, diving into the material isn't as hard - spending a day or two exploring all the different venues could give some inspiration, and at the very least make you knowledgeable about something genuinely interesting that might have a big role in changing the economy and internet.

If you do choose to do so, you'll probably be inclined not to make a new coin, but I do hope it might spark some curiosity in this exciting space, perhaps even join some of the better crypto/token projects out there Smiley As the China ban showed, the crypto communities are in dire need of people who aren't there just for the money.

Of course you are going to ignore me.
None of you want anything to do with defining anything.
Anything goes.. all long as it make me *BITCOIN* profits right ?
HOW they work or WHAT it actually is.. is of no concern.
You all simply sit on your ass think of a gimmick to tack onto an ICO coin template.
Then parade around "innovation" with your thousands and thousands white papers and road maps.

You make me sick.
This shit is far beyond a joke.. it's fucking criminal.
