I've tried to get an account on Bithumb. Their prices for Bitcoin and other altcoins are way better than in the US. Is there any way I can sign up for an account there? I've tried entering a password, but then it says "Password needs to consist of eight digits including special characters." Even when I meet the criteria it still rejects me. I even tried putting in Korean characters so I could bypass it, but it just doesn't work. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is Bithumb good? Can I trust them?

I looked at you exchange and price is almost same as everywhere.
What exactly is better?

I tried to register there but they need my mobile, don't want to use it Sad

Registered and logged in from UK but can't do anything without further verification. Like sending drivers licence photo to them in Korea, which gives me the creeps. It IS the best exchange for top prices. Need to think of a way to get verified without sending licence over.  Undecided

There's no way out of it now. The South Korean gov is now forcing bithumb to make all users verify. Bithumb won't be allowed to let people have anonymous accounts anymore.

All the South Korean exchanges will have to do know-your-customer (KYC) due diligence from now on.

I don't know about that, but I know there's restrictions on how much money you can send abroad from Korea. You can deposit bitcoins and sell them in Korea. However getting the money back out again isn't easy. Even Koreans are limited to sending a maximum of $50,000 abroad per year.

This medium story explains how the system works.

I'll pick up the thread, and then it's very quiet here, although there is not very good news, so it is reported that from January 27, 2022, Bigthumb will prohibit users from withdrawing crypto assets to unverified third-party wallets. To register their addresses, users will have to undergo additional verification. The restrictions do not affect the withdrawal of funds to local or foreign centralized exchanges with strict KYC procedures. https://cafe.bithumb.com/view/board-contents/1642612
