the only thing you can trace is the transactions. you can see them on the blockchain to see where the money is going. what you can't do is to telling who does those addresses (that are receiving the funds) belong to.
you can also use walletexplorer or one of the paid "blockchain analysis" services. but don't get your hopes up.

and no, you can not "retract" bitcoin if you have already sent it and the transaction is confirmed. there is no charge back or undo button in bitcoin.

There is a FOMO brewing...

Like what earlier poster have said that's is the only thing you can do as even if it moves from there to about 500 other accounts you will trace it but unfortunately if the scammer sent it to a mixer, that will be the end as the input and output will be from different addresses. This is the issue about bitcoin, the moment it leaves your wallet whether knowingly or not, its never coming back only if you have the control but in this case that has been lost.

It's possible to track it on the blockchain system by entering the wallet code or tx code. If the scammer uses a bitcoin mixer, it won't be possible to track it. The bitcoins will be divided into many groups. And tracking it doesn't give you any benefit honestly.

Transactions can be traced but getting back your money? I don't think so, this is the major con of bitcoin from paper currency. Because it is not governed by laws that make people afraid of scamming other people. Unlike in fiat that every transaction happens personally or by banks. Which makes it easier to get back what you lost and make the culprits pay for whatever they did to you. Tell your friend to just light a candle and cry over it for a night and get over it the next day.

You can track it, yes but anything more than that is pointless. You should already know that bitcoin transactions are irreversible. So the only hope you have getting back your money is if the scammer, by some miracle, decided to send it back to you.

only can track transaction and maybe it is impossible to see where it go, at least if he sell on some market you can see from cold wallet address ( i never see it yet ) you might be know in what exchange that coin go

You can see the transaction in the explorer, where the money is going etc but you can't take the money back. It's gone once you lost the control over the wallet. So better move on and try to recoup that lose.

Biggest mistake in crypto is that there is no "cancel" after transaction is done.
You can trace, you can even find the IP of wallet but that is all you can do.

I heard this from one of the support team of Paxful when I
got scammed.

They traced the IP and transaction. Turns out it was a big time scammer.
They froze the other accounts and awarded me the btc.

Not sure with the specifics but that's how they said it when I asked for details.

No it is almost impossible to track down bitcoin transactions if the one who have stole it haven't left any digital footprint by mistake. Bitcoin provides anonymity but sometimes this feature makes its perfect tool for hackers and scammers.

The only thing we can trace is where all those bitcoin ended up also this can't be accurate always.

Just can watch the transaction happening between end users. Here we cannot do anything until the concern person thinks of return it to us. I got encountered the same problem, but was not able to do anything even after I have the access watching the movement of bitcoin from one btc address to the other.

Yes, it can be visibly seen in the blockchain and track the movement of your friends' stolen coin. However, you can't do anything or recover it. They can just used a a tumbler or mixing service then transfer it to another wallet without a trace. Unless you hire a blockchain forensic like ChainAnalysis but you will need to shoulder the payment and I bet its not cheap. I think this is the software that IRS is using to track individual who doesn't pay their taxes. Sorry to break the bad news, but you can't get your friend's bitcoin back.

Of course you can trace the stolen bitcoin, but it is 110% impossible to recovery them. At the end bitcoins will be sented to an exchanger and converted into real cash. That is the biggest disadvantage of bitcoin, but in the same time is an advantage for some of us. When you consider using Bitcoin you got to take is the advantages but also the disadvantages.

As others have already posted, you can only track where it has been sent, although, that is not enough to even find the person who stole your Bitcoin. Stolen BTC cannot be retracted if stolen, unfortunately.

A similar case with yours had appeared a few days ago, but as I mentioned before, not much can be done for your assistance.

As you know bitcoins from mtgox were tracked to btc-e so stolen money possibly can be found but it depends on the amount and other details. I think your friend can get his bitcoins back only if the amount is big and scamer will be in the same jurisdiction.

Yes to a certain extent you can trace stolen bitcoin, there are forensic tools available that will allow you to trace the money flow. People think bitcoin is anonymous but it's really not. Especially for the guy who used the dark web and thought they were immune it showed they can get caught.

Thats why alt coins like xvg or pivx in my opinion are going to be important, privacy is gonna be huge in future.

You cannot retract BTC and you cannot really trace it if the thief knows what he is doing. Sorry for the bad news.
