Unfortunately no. You can mine with CPU at the same time as your GPU for some added revenue, but CPU mining solo cant even cover the electricity cost... because most coins are optimized for GPU or ASIC mining... hope this helps (you can also test for yourself and find ouit the answer )

You cannot make profit from CPU mining in the short run but you can use CPU mining to mine BCN(Bytecoin) which is performing well and your electricity cost will not be big because the i3 4150 CPU only consumes about 55-65 watt. You can mine BCN directly through the official wallet. Download it here: https://bytecoin.org/downloads/

Few days ago, I've tried to mine VTC with my CPU Core i7 through a P2pool. The fan had a hard day though, but the result is very little, just less than 0.02VTC {less than 2 cents} for a full day.
It's truly not worth it, to be honest.
But in my case, I just want to confirm the PoW, to make sure the coin I have in my bag worth the fiat I used to buy them. It's worth, really.

There might be some altcoins that can still profitably CPU/GPU mined and traded for Bitcoin thereafter, but I am not sure even they are worth when you factor in time investment.

i3 is pretty low end to try to mine on - it MIGHT be profitable on Monero (XMR) but it's going to be a VERY SMALL profit. i7 would be a much better choice, they can argue with low-to-mid range GPUs on hashrate for usually similar to a little lower power usage. Ditto higher-end Ryzen.
A LOT of Monero mining is done on used E5-based servers, thanks to serve.the.home and their articles and forum posts about the subject.

here are 3 cpus mining xmr https://www.nicehash.com/miner/146UJM5kgzLVUV23CXCf33KQKHckoX1gx3they pulse from 0 to 2 khs due to the high difficulty they earned 0.00170330 BTC that is about 8 bucks in about 5 days cpu = amd 1800x about 530h 1.30 usd intel i7 6700t about 150h .30 usd intel i5 7500t about 100h .21 usd total of 780h on average about 125 watts extra so if you have a gpu miner they are okay the three above have 5 1080 ti's between them

A recent gen i7 or any of the Ryzen CPUs is profitable to CPU mine on (Ryzen being significantly better). If you are already mining with a GPU and have your PC on 24/7 anyways a recent gen i5 or an FX 8 core may be worth mining for a a little beer money on the side.

Exactly. Even with nicehash a CURRENT gen mid-high end cpu will generate .50-$1/day. Not really worthwhile by itself but as others have said if you're running a GPU already it's a nice bonus. However the net after electricity is probably nil or negative, so if you're worried about daily net profit it's probably pointless.

I can turn a tiny profit on this rig just cpu https://www.amazon.com/ThinkCentre-M700-Business-Desktop-i7-6700T/dp/B01H5L2EMS/ref=sr_1_2?it will do 170h and use 40 watts that is 30-35 cents and 1 kwatt a day or 20 -25 cents a day profit and that rig can be built for about 500 but 25 cents a day means 2000 day roi buy this and drop in a used i7 6700t http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/outletus/commercial-desktop/thinkcentre/thinkcentre-m-tiny-series/ThinkCentre-M700/p/10JRX50100

Or you may also use your CPU to mine some new cpu algorithm coins, such as Verium, Biblepay. Biblepay is a very new algorithm, worth to take a look.

1800x doesn't hash much if any better than the 1700 (when OC) or the 1700x (when OC) - they all tend to OC to the same clock speed or very close.
If you want the 1800x for gaming, or already have it, then it makes sense - but for JUST mining on go with the lower-cost CPUs.
For that matter, if you're building the rig from scratch for mining, and can find a good AM3/AM3+ motherboard at a reasonable price, the FX 8320e pulls 70-80% of the hashrate of those Ryzens while costing about ONE THIRD of the price of a 1700 (and even less compared to the 1700x or 1800x which have some added costs due to NO COOLER INCLUDED over and above their higher cost for the CPU itself - 1700 normally includes a Wraith cooler).

I'm running 7KH/sec with CPUs mining our XMR pool. We do plan to add a GPU mining rig if/when we solve a block.
At current prices, it appears to be about 1000$ per year, per 1KH/sec (XMR). You can obtain 1KH/sec (we are using XMRIG/Ubuntu) with Dual Xeon E5-2695 v2s on a monero pool.
This isn't viable for most people though... you pretty much do need free power (although I'm fairly certain our power costs are not near 7K a year), and access to a decent amount of hardware.

i3 might make a profit if the electric cost is low enough - it's not a high hashrate CPU though, due to the much smaller cache size vs. the i5 or i7 lines limiting how many threads you can run EFFECTIVELY on Cryptonight miners.
Xeon E5 series by current standards isn't very power efficient - but the older E5 servers CAN often be bought cheap, which might make them worthwhile if you have very cheap power. Quantum "Windmill" open-compute servers in particular go for a song any more, and the Winterfell versions aren't much if any more on a per-CPU-socket basis. Down side is those particular servers only accept EARLY generation low-to-midrange power E5 CPUs like the 2520L/2550/2560/2570 and such (might be there's a BIOS update that lets them take later-gen CPUs but the later-gen CPUs tend to COST a lot more).

You can definitely profit from Cpu mining if u have low electricity cost and if u mine good alts and hold them till their prices soar but in my opinion u should only use Cpu mining in combination with you mining as not only are u stressing ur Cpu for a few bucks a month but the transactions fees have also rises to a few bucks per transaction so all in all I don’t think it worth it unless u are just using it to increase the profits from GPUS , Some Ryzens have good Monero hashrate and they defiantly are profitable
