AMD RX 550 - No power connector question.

Looking to build a small hobby rig with 4 or 5 RX 550 cards. They dont need extra PCIe power connectors from the PSU, would i still need a 1000 watt+ PSU to run with 4 or 5 GPUs? Bonus being, rig would only need 1 PSU right?

My rig have 6x RX550 4GB and my PSU have just 650W. The hole system needs in CryptoNight 290-300W with 1880H/s and on Equihash with 62Mh/s about 500W. Everything is default on settings, no overclocking or undervolting. I hope it helps you.

With today's rates and difficult to will probably be profitable in 176 days? Keep in mind that difficulty in 6 months will be much higher than today. I'd avoid the nicehash tax if you can.

Just keep in mind even though they may not need the common 6pin plugs on most GPUs you still want enough power to run the entire rig- depending on how much power it draws, you should be drawing 50-70% of the total maximum rated power your PSU can handle for maximum efficiency. Yes they can run at their max power, but they aren't at their efficiency peak even if they are rated 80+. In your case the 550 runs at average 50W, so 5 cards + CPU that isn't mining = approx 300 or so watts. 600 would be a good PSU wattage. As for coins XMR can be profitable, if your controller CPU is decent it can also hash XMR for some small profit.
