Hi,

I understand that DAG file loads in the VRAM of GPU. The current size of DAG is approx. 2 GB and same cards are useless for mining.

Is it advisable to use 4 GB GPU (specifically RX 470)? Any idea when DAG would reach at 4 GB size?

Thanking you anticipation.

Regards,

Riz

This question has been asked QUITE A FEW times before.

Short answer - Ethereum is likely to go to Proof of Stake before the DAG file gets to 4GB.

Not going to happen anytime soon. Just make sure you buy a GPU with at least 3Gb of ram, you could find a used one to save money if you are on a strict budget. Most latest GPUs for mining come with 4Gb, it's the ideal, don't worry about DAG size.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. One related question. Is DAG thing only applies to Ethereum or other/all cryptocurrencies as well?

Regards,

Riz

 Nope.

At recent DAG growth rate, the DAG file should exceed 4 GB somewhere in 2019.

DAG files only apply to ETH and it's offshoots like ETC - no other cryptocoin needs anywhere near that much GPU memory available.

Only for ETH, which should be POS only LONG before then and ETC. Lots of other Ethash coins like UBQ, MUSIC and EXP have a Dag file nowhere near 2GB, much less 4GB.
