Hello everybody!

I'm relatively new to mining, but I intend to make 2 or 3 rigs with GTX 1060 (since it's like 2.5x cheaper than gtx 1070 in my country). So far, the cheapest I can get is the Gigabyte GTX 1060 Windforce 2 OC 3GB with hynix RAM. This VGA mines with 15mhs out of the box, and up to 19mhs with clock (Core +170/ Memory + 1000, 80%). Currently I'm using the newest driver: 385.41 on Windows 10 64bit. The card is on the main PCI-E slot.

I've checked all the info I could get about gtx 1060 3GB and as I can see many reach ~20mhs out of the box, and few of them reach 25mhs with clock. None of them is Gigabyte though.

So my questions are as follows:

1.) What could be the reason I get so low mhs ?
2.) Did I make mistake buying Gigabyte, though it has Hynix memory.
2.a) If I did mistake with Gigabyte, what brand would you recommend me?
3.) Could you recommend any clock rates / bios that might boost a little the mhs?
4.) Could it be the Driver problem?

I'd appreciate any help and information I can get

P.S: Im using Claymore Dual miner v.10 - Ethereum + Decred

this is supposedly in mining altcoin thread section, you may transfer your question to that location however I gladly help you with some knowledge I have.

1.) What could be the reason I get so low mhs ?

try to overclock/underclock hashrates can achieve higher by playing those clocks, try also to tweak your miner ex. Claymore intensities

2.) Did I make mistake buying Gigabyte, though it has Hynix memory.

no, I think it is not that matter

2.a) If I did mistake with Gigabyte, what brand would you recommend me?

same with number 2 above

3.) Could you recommend any clock rates / bios that might boost a little the mhs?

this is a great read for 1060 clocks and hasrates - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1575547.0

and this for 1070 - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2054800.0

4.) Could it be the Driver problem?

possible, however after you read and applied other 1060/1070 users clocks, you have now an idea what adjustment you could do.

I'm having similar issues with some of my Gigabyte 1060s.

First I want to say that they don't come with a predetermined type of memory, some of them come with Hynix and some come with Samsung (the better of the two).

I have 2 full rigs right now, some with ASUS 1060s and some with the Gigabyte.
The gigabyte perform better in general and seem to have a higher chance to come with the Samsung memory module and thus clocking higher.
When fully overclocked I seem to be getting around 22-24.5 per Gigabyte card.

Now on to the issue:

The two full rigs are running windows but the third one I'm working on is running simplemining OS.
Currently has 2 of the Gigabyte cards in it and they are fully overclocked but they are only hashing at a rate of around 20, so 2-2.4 lower than my windows equivalent.

Using the same miner, same overclock but different OS and motherboard.... No idea whats causing this drop in hashrate

My best 1060's are the Asus Rog Strixx 6gb 1060's, get 25.1MH/s stable up for 59 days straight no downtime.

They are expensive though now.  Angry

hynix ram is known to be the worst of the 3 types.

Might want to try some older versions of claymore and see if stays the same.

Thanks to everybody for the help.

I experimented a bit with the following changes:

- I've experimented with several versions of Claymore.
- I've changed several drivers of nVidia.
- I've changed the -ethi of the Claymore.
- I've tried with different miners.
- I've even tried to make my CPU vga to be the main one for my configuration in case that the Windows 10 is "eating" the mhs because the 1060 was installed on the main pci-e thus making it the main video computing unit for the whole system.

The output is constant:

15.5mhs ETH with stock clock.
19mhs ETH with memory +1000 (I've played with the core clock, TDP, even the volts... nothing makes difference (not even 0.1 mhs drop/up) except the memory clock).

I don't know where the problem is. I still believe it's the manufacturer - Gigabyte or a faulty one.

I have owned a dozen  models of gigabyte cards since 2012.

the  1070 itx  was the only gigabyte I really like.
