Why do people kill for religion?

We are all witness of recent events, war, killings, and terrorism claiming they are doing it for their god. What do you think of this belief?

Religious leaders inspire people to kill using warped and mistranslated doctrines of that religion. Religion itself when followed in the letter of its doctrine will tell you to love your fellow man, thou shalt not kill, and be at peace with your surroundings. It is when man thinks that he is above the religious doctrine and warp it into his own agenda based teachings, is when he can convince those under his charge to kill for him.

Not all, because there are some religion that they need to kill human for their religion because this is their belief.They need to kill for their God, they think that it was right, they think that their doing is good for them, but they are wrong because killing a people by using their religion is bad, maybe they have been spiritual of evil so they uncontrolled they self.

They don't kill for religion, it is just an excuse in front of the whole world for their inhuman behaviour. Nobody should use peace concepts to go in to war.

It's because of blindly following a certain religion or following a charismatic teaching that serves only the leader's purpose. Religion can be interpreted in many different ways so before we foolishly kill or act violently towards people of a different religion, we have to first ask ourselves if that's really what its meant. Perhaps they had misunderstood what the true teachings of their religion is. The purpose of religion for me is to be a manual or guide in this life for us to live in goodness and harmony. I’m confident that there’s no religion that teaches taking away life of another being.

Look at the Egyptian Mosque bombing for example, what i heard is that it was committed but Islamic extremists. I wonder why terrorists even though they are muslims would choose to attack other muslims in the first place, what would they seek to kill members of the same religion. I thought they killed only non muslims.

I think that's insane. Who believe their gods if they are killing the people whom they want to pull closer to their so called gods. Who would believe in their god if humanity is slowly decreasing in number due to the killings and wars that are happening. It's not a matter of religion now, it's a matter of spreading who's much powerful than whom.

That's the crazy side of religion. Based on their beliefs, they need to eradicate those who don't believe in their God/religion or they are doing a good deed by killing non-believers on this land that they claim that their Gods would be pleased.

That is one thing I am against every religion. No one has the right to take someone's life. When you kill someone, no matter what your purpose are, you are considered as a murderer. That is why I don't get those people who were at war because they are fighting fot their religion. For me, they are members of a gang and not a religious group.

Killing in the name of religion is probably one of the most stupidest things in our history. Only people without critical thinking would ever consider doing that. Given that it’s in their bible, I highly doubt that our God meant it to be literal. If it’s literal, I myself would question it because killing another person means killing God’s creation, right? There is no bad religion or bible perse, just stupid followers who think killing is the answer.

Religion was meant to be a good thing for humanity. Until its preachers and believers started to become hypocrites of their own belief.
