The google adsense works with really "real traffic" and they don't even consider proxies anymore. If your friends want to be successful then he has to make the efforts in developing his website genuine and let the organic traffic visit the site.
Google Adsense counts one IP address per 24 hours as genuine one or sometime two times. So that's account for only one or two views. Plus this is just an impression as long as the user does not click on the ad and get engaged. That's the real desk which can earn you money.
I have seen people paying users to click the ads on their website which is good way but I don't think that can last for long time as google is google and they can track you down easily.
The only way to be successful is to create genuine stuff, I know that hurts but that us the way it works.
