Hi Folks, I was just wondering what does the market capitalization of Bitcoin means when it is $70 Billion? The current Market Cap is : $69,553,940,835 What does this number mean? and how is it being determined? Thnaks It depends on where you are pulling those numbers from. If you wanted to calculate the amount of each Bitcoin is worth then just times whatever the price of Bitcoin is right now by 21 million. Even if not all Bitcoins are placed on an exchange, you can get a rough idea on what the price of the whole Bitcoin Project is worth. Also, don’t rely on the marketcap for any coin because the price of the marketcap can change in any second and the price may not be exact because not all Bitcoin Exchanges have the same price at all.

I don't think anyone has dumbed it down for you enough yet.
Say we have 17 million bitcoins in existence (I know. I'm a little ahead of myself). If each of those was worth $10,000 the market cap would be 170 billion.
To really dumb it down: if a stock has 1000 shares and each is worth $10, that stock's market cap is $10,000.

Bitcoin market cap is a total price of ALL bitcoins mined untill that day. Don't take this number too serious. It includes all lost bitcoins. The total market cap is calculated by the price of the last bitcoin sold. For example after fork big part of bitcoin cash was in cold storages and people had no chance to trade it on exchanges. Like you have BCC that worth 800 usd but this price is determined by a low % of coins stored in exchanges.

Hi Folks, I was just wondering what does the market capitalization of Bitcoin means when it is $70 Billion? The current Market Cap is : $69,553,940,835 What does this number mean? and how is it being determined? Thnaks That will change in the coming years. The market cap tells us the total value of all the bitcoins circulation in the market today. Expect that numbers to increase in next few years as miners are expected to mine the remaining ~5M bitcoins unmined. Also, add to that the fact that bitcoin price today is high, and still getting higher as expected in the future.

Hi Folks, I was just wondering what does the market capitalization of Bitcoin means when it is $70 Billion? The current Market Cap is : $69,553,940,835 What does this number mean? and how is it being determined? Thnaks Simple. The coin market cap of a coin is simply the total value of coins in circulation considering the price of the coin at that time. Just head over to https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/ You'll find that there are 16,555,187 BTC in circulation. The current price of btc atm I talk is $4191.40. Just multiply those two numbers and you get what you are asking about. https://i.gyazo.com/0c6469d6f406f380725ee25b64704f7e.mp4

Yeah... if you have a number of bitcoin in circulation, you just multiply them for the price and you get the market cap...
Which is a quite misleading value by the way. In truth, the total market value is much lower. If someone were to sell only 10% of the bitcoin in circulation, the value will go down so much that the market cap value would not hold. The reverse also is true. If someone were to buy just the 10% of bitcoin that are for sale in exchanges, price would skyrocket and so would marketcap, while in reality, only 10% of the coins were bought at a higher place.

Hi Folks, I was just wondering what does the market capitalization of Bitcoin means when it is $70 Billion? The current Market Cap is : $69,553,940,835 What does this number mean? and how is it being determined? Thnaks Man if you lool that statistics often, you will see that sometimes that number can be decreased. Reason is 1 bitcoin's price. It's changing very often, sometimes price decreases but also new coins are mined and that fills a little some fall. If price will drop now to 2000$, you will see that market cap will be less than half of current amount. This is everything, nothing more, market cup depends on 1 bitcoin's price x current number of bitcoins.

It's simple. It is the total of bitcoins available multiplied by the value of one bitcoin. It is the price in dollars of all bitcoins mined up to that point.

It isn't hard the total supply of btc is measured which is 16 million something that amount is then multiplied with the orice of btc and there you have the market cap. So when the price falls the value also decreases therefore the market cap falls and in news it is said as "Bitcoin lost $14billion after china ico ban" .

Only 21 million bitcoin will ever exist..so market cap will be determined at the future price of those number of coins.
Market cap today is the circulating supply multiply by current price

Market Cap is the total value of the outstanding shares of a company. It is calculated by multiplying the outstanding shares (this includes the value of all listed categories of a corporation's stocks - preferred stock, common shares, etc) of a company into share price of a single share.

I don’t really depend on marketcap, though I do, but not on one. There is no need for me.to go ahead and be explaining what marketcap is all about , cause I can see that lots of people already did that. But one simple explanation I loved was marketcap– as total US dollar value of stock supply in circulation.

Market cap makes no sense when talking about bitcoin. It's a missunderstanding that people have brought over from the stock market. A currency cannot have a market cap... it makes no sense.
