I dont think this card is for GPU, more look like for USB ASIC mining Wink
No on single OS can handle 104 GPU's.

These are not for GPUs. That's not how PCI-E lanes work.

What if this is used for boards not meant for high end meaning I can get a normal $50 boards and use one of these. I do see a substantial power and deployment cost saving.

I am happy with six. I don't even want to run 12. A crashed or frozen system can cause you to lose a ton of hash rate in a hurry.

You have to buy multiple power supplies for the big builds anyway so you save what $200 on a motherboard, CPU and ram? $200 per $3000 of GPU's is pretty insignificant in my eyes vs the benefits of having separate systems.

I believe that windows can only support up to 8 GPUs from same maker. Meaning 8 nvidia + 8 AMD = 16 GPUs total. After that windows don't recognize the GPUs. I remember reading that on linux should be possible to use more GPUs but I have not checked this info.

awesome product, we just need the drivers to suck a bit less and remove the arbitrary limits of gpus

yes, these -are- 1x pci-e risers, they use USB3 cabling just because the signal fits over the  wires, not because it -is- usb
