The Swiss municipality of Chiasso has announced that it will accept tax payments in bitcoin from January 2018 onwards. The announcement signifies a further gathering of momentum for Switzerland’s bid to become a global leader in the bitcoin and cryptocurrency industries, with Chiasso seeking to rival Zug’s Crypto Valley as a major global hub for bitcoin adoption and innovation.

Chiasso will begin accepting bitcoin as a form of taxation payment beginning in January 2018, with the city planning to trial the method by initially restricting payments to values up to 250 Swiss francs (CHF). Zug currently accepts taxation payments in bitcoin of up to 200 CHF, and since July has received more than 40 payments in bitcoin.

For those wondering, Zug is another municipality in Switzerland.

What we have here is rival municipalities competing to be the most bitcoin-friendly.

When you can pay your taxes in bitcoin, get your salary in bitcoin and buy food and pay rent in bitcoin - that's when it will have gone truly mainstream.

January 2018 is almost here with us and I will want to see this dream come true no matter how vague with the current challenges because if I will be receiving my salaries in bitcoin, the question is, will it be the dollar equivalent I will be receiving or a fixed amount of btc because looking at both options, the challenges and advantages avoid both for the employer and the employee.

A good news after the shitty Chinese news I have heard. This is good that government is getting involved into bitcoin friendly economy. This will bring up more opportunities within the country as well other countries will try to get involved their governments body too. As we can see ICO ban in Chinese had major drawback of people getting panicked but in the other hand government like Swiss will push the bitcoin further and people will get assurance that there are hope that other government will follow the legitimacy of bitcoin too. This can bring us fortune in near future due to increased involvement of governments. Who knows they might develop new system to avail the government facilities as well. So we can earn online and pay offline that would be just great to do.

We can really see that bitcoin is becoming what it is supposed to be. Step by step bitcoin is becoming a currency and not just a store of value. It maybe small now but then if every one follow suit then the scope of it will be bigger. Seeing an implementation like this makes me believe more that bitcoin would have a significant value in the future. There may be some hindrances along the way but if we the bitcoin users continue to use and continue to support it then we would surely benefit from it in the future.

actually there have been a lot of good news lately but it seems like the bitcoin community likes listening to Chinese news FUD more than anything else.
The Switzerland has always been bitcoin friendly so it is not a surprise to me what they did. the other good news of this week was the Russians talking about bitcoin and how they are working on legalizing it.

What? A town in Switzerland is doing this? Wow. We just entered a new era in Bitcoin. This level of governmental acceptance is incredible! This is what we need. We need government and bitcoin to coexist without tension.

First, China declares (probably) pump and dump ICOs dangerous for consumers.

Second, Chiasso, Switzerland declares they'll accept tax revenue in Bitcoin.

This is great!

This is an interesting escalation for Switzerland, I'm impressed that their country is going to such lengths to incorporate such a radical change of the financial system into a country almost built completely around the past financial systems. I have to sincerely wonder what is driving the government to go to such lengths for their municipalities to make such moves.

If I had enough Bitcoin I'd probably be on my way to Switzerland pretty soon, it's a shame the cost of living isn't low enough for my current Bitcoin work to be effective.

I would appreciate this move because it will make Bitcoin more flexible. People have a misconception that Bitcoin users are against tax but I don't think so. We are ready to pay appropriate tax but let us hold our values in Bitcoin instead of holding it in other commodities or fiat currencies. I believe that recognition of Bitcoin through a legal point of view would help the government to monitor the flow and Bitcoiners to freely use it for the goods and services without any fear.
