What version is your client at? The warning appears when 50 of the last 100 blocks signals for an unknown versionbit to Bitcoin Core. Versionbit 1 is signaling for segwit. If you have upgraded your client to at least 0.13.0, this warning will disappear since the client now knows that versionbit 1 signals for segwit.

Yes, my client is 0.12 still so I guess that is it.  Odd that there are not more search hits on this as one would think that there would be a lot of folks seeing this.

I know my client is old, but I really hate messing with my BTC software that has proven secure for a time.  Now I have to worry about a man-in-the-middle on my new download.  Also, I don't keep my blockchain on C:, so I have to go googling and relearn how to set that up, and if I screw it up spend a week redownloading the dammed thing.

I so wish there was an "upgrade" button in the core client that would establish a secure connection and install the new version while retaining my settings, but I suppose if it was that easy Core would have done it.

Please tell me if it was that easy Core would have done it, and they aren't just punishing average users out of some sort of coder elitism spite.

Maybe it creates a conflict issue with the privacy-focused nature of some Bitcoin users? I know personally that if I were going to do an upgrade like that on a secure machine I would want to verify file hashes myself - not required for the day-to-day but I'm sure there are enough users out there who "like it that way" that it might not have come up in serious development discussions?

Such an updater changes the security model of Bitcoin Core's distribution and introduces more trust on the Bitcoin Core developers. It introduces phone home code and we don't really want to do that as it also introduces centralization in addition to the security implications. You would be trusting the developers to secure the server that your software connects to. You would be trusting that they are hosting genuine software on that server. You are trusting the software to establish a secure connection, download the software, and verify it. There is a lot of trust introduced, which is why Bitcoin Core has no auto-update functionality. The current security model is that you as the user must go and retrieve the installer and verify it yourself. This keeps the burden of security on the user instead of the developers.

I really wish you guys wouldn't do this.  Now I have to update my wallet, with all the implied vulnerabilities of that...smh.

It shouldn't because Armory does not read Bitcoin Core's databases at all. That sounds like a different problem.

You said it was working with 0.12, so why did you upgrade? you could have ignored the error message I guess.

In my experience, I upgraded from 0.12 to 0.13 to 0.14... never had any problems. The last time I had to re-sync the entire thing was during pre 0.1 times, and I think it was due harddisk corruption.

0.15 is coming soon and i've heard it's going to be very fast. Im sure that once you set it up you'll think it was worth it. You have money invested on this thing, make the effort to keep it updated to the latest version.

Yeah, I'm trying, achow101 and goatpig are helping me in another thread.  It's just, when I get a stable setup going where my coin are not being stolen I am REALLY paranoid about changing it at all.
