Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

the L9 (don't know this ASIC) and D3 aren't sha256d asic's. The OP was asking about bitcoin miners, not altcoin miners.

@OP: at this point in time, the antminer S9 is the sha256d ASIC with the lowests J/Gh on the market. However, you still need pretty cheap electricity in order to mine profitably, and bitmain only offers 90 of warrantee, and the S9 is known to break easily.
If you go for canaan products, they are known to be a bit sturdier, and their support dept is known to be a little bit more user-friendly, but their best product is not as efficient as the S9.

Antminer S9 are your best bet for an ASIC right now to mine bitcoins. Performance/power ratio is good, but again, cheap electricity is needed if you want to breakeven fast and start profiting. The Avalon is a good alternative too, but is always out of stock like the S9s so you need to have a pretty good day and have your wallet ready if you want to purchase these big boys.

Is it profitable in buying it ?
I can answer this one. No, its not.
I mean, you must SCALE your operation to be efficient (operation costs).
You must have access to cheap electricity, you must know much about hardware, have constant delivers of most advanced computer chips out there.

Its really hard, not for everybody except of hobby purposes.

profitable? yes! but the percentage says the smaller you are the less you earn and the larger you are the higher profits become more difficult to achieve!

S9 from Bitmain, however there have been a couple months since they released their last batch.
I assume they are waiting to BTC price to stabilize/rise to release a newer SHA-256 version.
