Rumor has it the first (historical) marathon runner died from dehydration after arrival.
...after covering 150 miles the two days before running said marathon.
One version of the events is (from Wikipedia):
Pheidippides as the messenger who ran from Athens to Sparta asking for help, and then ran back, a distance of over 240 kilometres (150 mi) each way.
