i was wondering as i also use my computer for internet activities movies an such as im home alot. was wondering is the reason people use pcie gen1 is it for lower power or is it for compatability when running alot of graphics cards? i have several cards 4 of them with 2 in reguler 16x or 8x lanes. wondered what the benifit is with setting everything to gen1

There is no "benefit" to using PCI-E generation 1 - but for mining, it's overkill enough that there's no reason to NOT use an older motherboard that only supports that.

Isnt changing the settings for gen1/gen2 to do with the fact the risers only use a portion of the pcie16x slot?

less power consumption? better stability just wondering why this is done i have only 5 cards though
