A question about the following : assume that your wallet is stored on :
- a computer
- a hardware key like the Nano S.

What are the chances in recovering the bitcoins if those items are submerged during a flood or other catastrophe ?

If you keep the data of the private key to your wallet either on the disk or in the printed paper version, you can restore access to your wallet through any other computer. Only worry about protecting private key information is necessary in advance. Otherwise, access to the wallet will be lost forever.

Simple water damage won't necessarily destroy all of the data. I would definitely recommend waiting until everything is thoroughly dry before trying to boot anything up. The last thing you want to do is to turn a salvageable situation hopeless by being impatient and shorting out your equipment.

If you keep your private keys and recovery phase on a paper, you won't have problem with the loss of equipment or hardware. You need to keep this two information in a secure place.

Have some waterproof plastic and enclosures if you think it is possible?

Or a backup in a waterproof plastic?
