My computer froze due to faulty PCI expansion card and I could recover only by pressing Reset button. I was doing initial blockchain download after clean install and the download was at 95% completion when PC froze. Bitcoin version is 0.8.1 and OS is Windows XP SP3.

How likely is to corrupt the database while downloading and verifying blockchain with hardware malfunction such as complete PC lockup?

How can I re-verify the locally stored blockchain files and should I do it? As I understand the Wallet.dat have additional checks implemented to check against corruption compared to older versions.

Sorry I have no experience with new LevelDB of 0.8.x client and it's resilience against computer freezing in middle of operation.
