Is an email service something people would use? It would have a grouping system like the following:

@admin.bitcointalk.org
@moderator.bitcointalk.org
@donator.bitcointalk.org
@member.bitcointalk.org

The emails would not be free for the average member. A requirement of 250 posts and a fee of 0.25 BTC is what I suggest. I've also voted for a forwarding service instead of a full email client because of the theoretical service load that would produce.

I love how, bitcointalk.org is becoming facebook. When can I update my status? Emails for a forum is kinda redundant we have a private messaging system, we can post topics using gpg encrpytion so only the person that we want to read it can. I mean what is email really going to solve beside look cool for 5 people that think it is cool. Waste of time, I think theymos can find a better use of that time. The dude is in college, lets not forget that, he has a life outside of bitcoin I am guessing since he is around my age.

You sort of have a point, however think of the publicity this would get for bitcoin. If pay for a bitcoin.org email anyday

Publicity isn't in email address it is in products. I think this would have no impact and be a huge target for hackers. Making theymos' or anyone who takes on that job that much harder.

Promoting bitcoin via your email address would work more than you think. Also, everything is a target for hackers these days. Theymos has hundreds of bitcoins that went nowhere from donations. John K currently holds thousand(s) Bitcoin for the forum right now. He could easily pay anybody to manage the SMTP server and watch security. Also, there isn't too much to exploit in a forwarding system afaik. As long as you can't redirect data output you should be fine.

I agree with @*.bitcointalk.org emails, but admin/moderator/donator/member subdomain is superfluous. administrators and moderators should get a plain @bitcointalk.org email, whereas regular users should get @member.bitcointalk.org or @user.bitcointalk.org. There's no need to state a user's forum rank in their email address.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I beg to differ. Admin or Moderator would be important tags to use. Seperates them from the user.bitcointalk.org domain, and will provide a lower spam marking threshold.
